The Philadelphia Eagles entered the 2026 offseason in a familiar position — still one of the most talented teams in the NFC, but with just enough questions to make things interesting heading into the NFL Draft.

After a Super Bowl run just two seasons ago, the Eagles followed it up with a solid but ultimately disappointing 2025 campaign that ended earlier than expected in the playoffs. Now, the focus shifts to retooling a roster that still has championship expectations.

The biggest storyline surrounding Philadelphia has been the future of star wide receiver A.J. Brown. Trade rumors swirled early in the offseason, but reports indicate the Eagles are not moving him — at least for now. Keeping Brown paired with quarterback Jalen Hurts maintains one of the most dangerous offensive duos in the league.

Still, there have been changes.

  • Key players lost: Edge Jaelan Phillips, linebacker Nakobe Dean, safety Reed Blankenship
  • Key players gained: Cornerback Tariq Woolen, wide receiver Marquise Brown

Philadelphia added cornerback Riq Woolen on a one-year deal, a move that should help stabilize the secondary. Woolen brings size and athleticism to a defense that already features young standout talent. The team also locked up defensive tackle Jordan Davis with a major extension, solidifying the interior of the defensive line for years to come.

But it hasn’t all been additions.

The Eagles lost several key contributors in free agency, including linebacker Nakobe Dean and safety Reed Blankenship. Perhaps most importantly, they also saw their pass rush take a hit with the departure of edge defender Jaelan Phillips, leaving a noticeable gap in one of their strongest units.

That puts pressure on this upcoming draft.

Philadelphia’s needs are clear: the Eagles must find another impact pass rusher and continue building depth at key positions like tight end and defensive back. With a roster still loaded with talent, this isn’t about rebuilding — it’s about maintaining their place among the NFC elite.

There’s also a coaching element to watch. With a new offensive coordinator in place, the Eagles could see some schematic changes that put more responsibility on Hurts to adapt. That transition will be critical in determining whether this offense can take another step forward or takes a slight step back.

At the end of the day, the Eagles remain a team built to win now. But in a division that is getting better, standing still isn’t an option.

The draft may not define their season — but it could determine whether they stay on top or start to slip.
