Nfl Betting, Odds, Lines: Betting Trends To Know For Week 8's Biggest Games

Card image cap

As the 2026-27 season nears its midpoint, a half-dozen teams are tied atop the NFL's point-spread standings. All are 5-2 ATS.

Flip those standings upside down and you'll find seven teams that have been anything but bettor friendly; each are 2-4-1 ATS or worse.

As fate would have it, my NFL betting trends report highlighting the five best matchups in Week 8 features four of the league's most profitable franchises, plus a pair of 4-2 ATS squads and three of the league's biggest money burners.

In all, I dug up multiple NFL betting trends for a trio of division rivalry battles, as well as a clash of perennial AFC contenders currently at opposite ends of the profitability spectrum.

Capping things off is a Monday Night Football showdown pitting the hottest ATS team on the planet against an opponent that has stung bettors more often than not this season.

Vikings at Lions (-3.5, 46.5)

Moneyline: Vikings +145/Lions -175

• The Vikings emerged from their Week 6 bye and held off Indianapolis 16-10 on Sunday. Not only is Minnesota (6-0) the last undefeated team standing, but it has won 11 consecutive games since early December.

Despite failing to cover as 7-point home favorites against the Colts, the Vikings are still 8-2-1 ATS during their winning streak (4-2 ATS in 2026).

• The Lions entered their Week 6 bye off a 45-21 rout of Arizona as 5.5-point road favorites, then returned to work Sunday and nipped Green Bay 20-17 on a last-second field goal.

Detroit has posted consecutive victories for the first time since a four-game winning streak from Weeks 2-5 last season. However, after barely failing to cover the 3.5-point spread against the Packers, the Lions are now 1-4-1 ATS this year —  part of an ongoing 5-12-1 ATS drought.

• During its 11-game heater, Minnesota has taken down four division opponents (3-0-1 ATS). It also has won and covered five straight road contests and recorded outright upsets in three games as an underdog.

Conversely, during their 18-game spread-covering slump, the Lions sport these negative NFL betting trends: 2-6-1 ATS at home, 4-8-1 ATS as a favorite and 1-3 SU and ATS against the NFC North (0-3 SU and ATS when favored).

• The Vikings swept Detroit last year, scoring upsets both times. After eking out a 27-24 victory as 9.5-point underdogs in Week 9, they rolled 23-10 as a seven-point pup in Week 17.

Prior to notching its first season sweep of the Lions since 2020, Minnesota had lost five consecutive meetings in this rivalry and gone 0-9 ATS in the previous nine clashes.

• Detroit's first five games of the season flew over the total, with each reaching at least 55 points. Although that streak ended Sunday against the Packers, the over is still 13-5 in the last 18 at Ford Field. All 13 blew past 50 combined points.

On the flip side, Minnesota is on a 13-2 under stretch, including 6-1 on the road. Total points scored in the Vikings' last five games: 12, 39, 25, 36 and 26.

• While the over/under split in four Vikings-Lions battles the past two seasons, the over is still 8-4 in the last dozen head-to-head matchups.

Also, since 2019, the over is 6-1 when the Lions host. All six overs featured at least 50 combined points.

Ravens at Bills (-3.5, 54.5)

Moneyline: Ravens +150/Bills -175

• Baltimore is coming off a pair of AFC North setbacks, following a last-second 13-10 loss at Cleveland as a 3-point favorite with Sunday's 35-13 debacle against Cincinnati as a 3-point home underdog.

The Ravens — who have played the last 3½ games without injured starting quarterback Lamar Jackson — blew second-half leads of 10-0 to the Browns and 13-0 to the Bengals.

Since opening the season with a 41-23 rout of the Colts as a three-point chalk, Baltimore is 1-5 ATS. However, prior to last week, the Ravens had registered three straight upsets as underdogs.

• Buffalo took last week off after a successful two-game West Coast road trip that began with a 37-34 overtime upset of the Rams as a 3.5-point underdog and ended with a 33-30 win at the Raiders as 5.5-point favorites.

The Bills are off to a 5-1 SU and 4-2 ATS start, with all five wins coming against non-division opponents (4-1 ATS).

• Buffalo dropped its most recent home game 29-26 to New England as a 7-point favorite. Still, since Week 15 of the 2021 season, the Bills have won 38 of 45 on their turf (including four of six in the postseason).

However, during this stretch of home dominance, Buffalo is only 24-21 ATS (6-4 ATS when laying less than six points).

• Including a thrilling 2024 AFC divisional playoff matchup, the Bills and Ravens have squared off four times since 2022. Buffalo won three of those contests — by margins of 3, 2 and 1 — while going 2-1-1 ATS.

The only lopsided meeting: Baltimore's 35-10 home win as a 2.5-point favorite in Week 4 of 2024.

• The last two Ravens-Bills clashes went over the total (27-25 in the 2024 playoffs; 41-40 in the 2025 season opener).

Three additional NFL betting trends explain why the total in this contest is sky high: The over is 9-2 in Buffalo's last 11 overall (5-1 this season), 5-2 in the Bills' last seven at home and 5-2 in Baltimore's last seven as a visitor.

Browns at Steelers (-3.5, 39.5)

Moneyline: Browns +160/Steelers -190

• Cleveland and Pittsburgh technically share first place in the AFC North, as both teams are 5-2 SU and ATS.

However, the Browns currently hold the tiebreaker by virtue of their 27-24 upset of the Steelers in Week 4 as 3-point home underdogs.

That's among a quartet of three-point victories that Cleveland has racked up in the last four weeks, with three of those wins secured on field goals in the final seconds.

In addition to beating Pittsburgh at the gun, Browns kicker Andre Szmyt nailed game-winners that knocked off Baltimore in Week 6 (13-10) and Tennessee last week (27-24).

• Hours before Cleveland rallied to beat the Titans as 2-point road favorites, the Steelers outlasted New Orleans 16-10 in Paris, covering as 3-point favorites.

Pittsburgh has won and covered three in a row since falling at Cleveland, all as a favorite. In fact, aside from the loss to the Browns, the Steelers are 4-0 SU and ATS when laying points this season.

• Going back to Week 16 last year, the Browns are on a 7-3 SU and 8-2 ATS roll. Over these 10 contests, they're 6-3 SU and 7-2 ATS as an underdog (including two upsets of Pittsburgh).

Then again, the Steelers are 3-0 SU and ATS at home in 2026.

• Cleveland has now won and covered four of the last six against the Steelers. However, all four of those victories were in Ohio. Which leads to these eye-popping NFL betting trends:

The Browns have lost 31 of 33 regular-season games in Pittsburgh since 1990, including 23 in a row since 2004. Cleveland also has failed to cover the spread in eight straight visits to the Steel City — part of a 2-11-1 ATS funk in Pittsburgh since 2012.

Also worth noting: The straight-up winner has cashed in 15 of the last 16 meetings, including 11 in a row since 2021.

• The Steelers have hurdled the total in four of their last five, including two straight at home. The over is also 3-1 in Cleveland's four road games this season.

However, the under has hit in five of seven Browns-Steelers battles in Pittsburgh since 2019.

Chiefs (-1.5, 40.5) at Broncos

Moneyline: Chiefs -120/Broncos +100

• After a 5-0 start to the season, Kansas City went to Seattle and got mauled in a 20-3 loss in the Week 7 Sunday Night Football game.

The Chiefs never threatened to cover as 3-point road underdogs, continuing this odd NFL betting trend: They've now alternated ATS wins and losses in nine consecutive games dating to Week 16 of last season.

• Denver is riding a three-game SU and ATS winning streak, the latest triumph being Sunday's 30-16 blowout of the Cardinals as 4.5-point road chalk.

The Broncos' defense has not surrendered more than 17 points during the three-game surge.

• Going back to the 2024 regular-season finale — a meaningless 38-0 loss at Denver — the Chiefs are 3-9 SU and 2-10 ATS away from Arrowhead Stadium.

During this stretch, Kansas City is 3-7 SU and 2-8 ATS as a road favorite.

• Kansas City kicked off this season with a 31-10 thrashing of the Broncos, easily cashing as a 2.5-point home favorite.

Even with that result, though, Denver has won four of the last six head-to-head and is 7-3 ATS in the last 10 (6-2 ATS as an underdog).

Additionally, the Broncos have won three straight regular-season games as a home underdog, including last year's 22-19 upset of the Chiefs as 4.5-point pups.

• The under has hit in seven consecutive meetings in this AFC West rivalry, including all three in the Mile High City.

Two of those seven contests topped out at 41 combined points (including the Week 1 tussle in K.C.). Otherwise, the two squads have not cleared 38 points since the Chiefs' 27-24 home win in Week 17 of 2022.

Furthermore, the under is 22-7 in the Chiefs' last 29 regular-season games, with 17 failing to eclipse 40 total points. The under is also 7-2 in Denver's last nine overall, only three of which hurdled 40 points.

Bears at Seahawks (-3, 46.5)

Moneyline: Bears +145/Seahawks -175

• Chicago kicked off the Week 7 slate with a 30-24 Thursday Night Football victory over the Patriots, cashing as a 3-point home favorite.

The Bears, who have scored at least 30 points in three of the four games that quarterback Caleb Williams has started, are now 5-2 SU and ATS. That includes a 5-0 SU and ATS mark against non-NFC North opponents.

• Seattle rebounded from consecutive narrow defeats — 32-29 to San Francisco at home and 17-14 at Denver in overtime — with a 20-3 dismantling of Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs on Sunday night.

The pivotal character in the Seahawks' story so far has been the defense: That unit has surrendered an average of 10.8 points in four victories and 27.3 points in three losses.

• Chicago joins the Browns, Steelers, Broncos, Giants and Raiders with an NFL-best 5-2 ATS mark.

What's more, no team has been more profitable than the Bears since the end of the 2024 campaign. Including two playoff contests, they're on ATS hot streaks of 20-7-1 overall, 9-3-1 on the road and 10-2-1 as an underdog.

• On their way to winning Super Bowl 60, the Seahawks last year covered the spread in 15 of 20 games. However, they're just 2-4-1 ATS so far in 2026 (all as favorites).

One positive NFL betting trend working in Seattle's favor this week: Since the 2025 season began, Seattle is 17-3 SU and 14-5-1 ATS when favored by fewer than eight points (playoffs included).

• Looking for a reason to bet the over in this contest? Here you go: In the last 11 road games that Williams has been under center since the start of last season, the Bears and their opponents have combined for at least 49 points nine times.

Combined points in those 11 road outings: 73, 49, 49, 46, 89, 36, 49, 49, 80, 96 and 54.
