Can you believe it? The first game of the 2026 Philadelphia Eagles season is just days away!

And there’s reason to believe the Birds are going to begin this year’s campaign with a win.

The Eagles are 5.5-point home favorites against the Washington Commanders.

For the uninitiated, the home side is commonly favored by three points in a game between two evenly-matched teams. So, the Eagles are unsurprisingly viewed as the superior team in this matchup … on paper, at least.

If there’s anything unexpected about this line, it’s that the Eagles aren’t favored by more. Sure, it’s a division game and Week 1 brings uncertainty. But Philly’s roster is largely healthy while the Commanders are pretty banged up; Washington is most notably missing starting left tackle Laremy Tunsil. The Eagles’ front seven must take advantage and dominate up front.

The Commanders’ defense is going to be without starting cornerback Trey Amos, leaving Washington with a less than ideal outlook in the secondary.

Maybe Jayden Daniels carries his team largely like he did in 2024. Maybe Washington’s two new coordinators will make a big difference for them. Maybe the Eagles’ offense, which very much seems like a work in progress, has a slow start.

I don’t know if the Eagles beating the Commanders will be a cakewalk. I do feel good about the Birds’ chances to win the game, whether they cover or not. I lean towards betting on the Birds and giving the points.

What say you?
