After Friday’s training camp practice, the third full-team session of the preseason for the Kansas City Chiefs, head coach Andy Reid spoke to the local media and provided an injury update to open his time at the podium. Defensive end Ashton Gillotte was the only player with a status to share.

“We had one injury with Gillotte; he had a strained hamstring,” Reid told reporters. “So we’re just checking that out, got him out of there, and he’ll start his rehab and MRI and all that stuff. [I] don’t think it’s too bad.”

While observing practice, Arrowhead Pride noticed undrafted rookie wideout Omari Evans staying down after attempting to catch a pass on the sideline from third-team quarterback Garrett Nussmeier. Evans was attended to, but got up quickly; he might’ve gotten the wind knocked out of him. Reid did not comment on Evans.

Wide receiver Rashee Rice and cornerback L’Jarius Sneed continued the same routine the two have had for the first week of full-team practices: start off on the field, then leave for planned rehabilitation during the team’s work in team periods.

“We’re just building them up,” Reid said. “We know it’s going to take a little bit of time, they haven’t much on the conditioning part of it and rehab part of it. We know they can play; we want to be smart getting them there and how we go about that.”

This clip of Rice running a downfield route on air shows he has work to do before he is 100% physically recovered and can play the full-time role the Chiefs’ offense is accustomed to.

Defensive tackle Omarr Norman-Lott continued to work off to the side during the Chiefs’ practice as he stays on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.

Another note from Reid’s opening statement: the Chiefs are still in a ramp-up or “acclimation” period of training camp through Saturday’s practice. The full pads won’t be donned until Monday, after the team gets a rest day on Sunday.

Saturday’s practice will begin at 9:15 a.m. Arrowhead time and will run roughly two hours, according to Reid.
