Patriots Practice Report: Treveyon Henderson Makes Returns

Following a weekend off, the New England Patriots were back on the practice fields on Monday for a bonus day of work ahead of Week 2.

For the first time since Aug. 24, when he suffered an ankle injury, running back TreVeyon Henderson returned to the practice field. He was joined by offensive lineman Ben Brown, who has been out since suffering a knee injury in the preseason opener.

“[They’ll] probably try to do some stuff today,“ head coach Mike Vrabel explained. ”We’ll see where they are.“

In the absence list, the Patriots defense was missing captain Robert Spillane. The 30-year old, who was managed at times last season, was present in the locker room and spoke to reporters beforehand.

Also missing was third-string quarterback Behren Morton and fellow rookie offensive tackle Dametrious Crownover for unknown reasons.

New England also is expected to announce some turnover on the practice squad, as new wide receiver Chandler Brayboy was present following the injury to A.J. Brown. Outside linebacker Xavier Holmes, who spent the offseason with the team before suffering an injury an being part of roster cuts, was also on the field.

The Patriots donned full pads on the practice fields as the focus on Monday fell back on fundamentals after their Week 1 loss.

“I mean, we’re a big fundamental emphasis here today,” Vrabel said. “Technique has got to improve, all these little things that can help you win football games. So, the defense gives you something and the ball’s supposed to go somewhere, then put the ball there. And if we’re supposed to be in a look where we’re supposed to can the play, then can it or alert it or whatever that may be defensively, our checks and everything else. And build on some of the good stuff on special teams.”

New England will resume a typical in-season week moving forward and have three more practices on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday followed by injury reports. Their home opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers is then set for Sunday at 1:00 p.m. ET.
