Patriots Training Camp Primer: Everything You Need To Know About Day 7

Card image cap

The New England Patriots will close out their second block of practices on Saturday. For a third straight day, the reigning AFC champions will hit the Gillette Stadium fields before a second off-day on Sunday.

Here is all you need to know about training camp practice No. 7.

Schedule

The seventh practice of this year’s training camp will again take place on the fields behind Gillette Stadium. As usual, parking and attendance are free.

  • 9:30 a.m. ET: Mike Vrabel press conference
  • 10:15 a.m. ET: Practice
  • ca. 12:15 p.m. ET: Player availability (QB Behren Morton, TE Hunter Henry, TE Tanner Arkin, LB Robert Spillane, CB Marcus Jones, CB Karon Prunty)

As always, of course, the schedule is tentative and subject to change. For more information, please visit our Pats Pulpit Training Camp Guide.

Story of the day

How intense will the session be? After back-to-back days of practicing in full pads, will Mike Vrabel give his team a breather on Saturday? Or, with the second off-day of camp coming up, will he opt for more intensity and full-speed competition?

Arguments can be made for both, buy with only so many practice opportunities during the summer staying in full pads would not come as a surprise.

Injuries to monitor

NFI: RB Terrell Jennings, S Brenden Schooler

PUP: TE C.J. Dippre, ED Harold Landry III, ED Gabe Jacas

Injured: CB Carlton Davis III

TBD: DT Christian Barmore

Christian Barmore was a surprise no-show on Friday, joining the injured Carlton Davis as well as the five players on the physically unable to perform and non-football injury lists on the sidelines. Whether his absence is injury-related is not known at the moment, but he did not appear to get banged up during Thursday’s practice.

Players to watch

WR Kayshon Boutte: The most notable of the Patriots’ pass catchers during the ramp-up period, Boutte has been quiet the last two days. Maybe that is a result of the practice script, or maybe of the tide turning in the receiver room. Regardless, others have taken center stage since the introduction of full pads on Thursday.

LG Alijah-Vera Tucker and OT Morgan Moses: The two veterans were in and out of the lineup on Friday, which might have contributed to the defense finding some success out of its pressure packages. The hope will be that a potential return to increased participation on Saturday will help shore things up again up front.

The returners: The Patriots practiced competitive kickoff returns for the first time on Friday, which would suggest that Saturday might see some punt drills on the menu. If so, will Kyle Williams, Lan Larison and Eftom Chism remain active?
