Record Fell And Droughts Ended In Buffalo’s Week 1 In Over Texans

Well, that’s how we like to start a season. 

The Buffalo Bills went to Houston, scored 36 points, needed another late-game Josh Allen drive to get out with the win, and gave Joe Brady his first regular-season victory as an NFL head coach. 

Now that our heart rates have returned to normal, there is still plenty to Shout! about from Week 1. Here’s a look at some of the Bills’ off-the-scoreboard accomplishments from Sunday.

Let’s start with Brady. The win made him the fourth head coach in Bills history to win his regular-season debut with the team. More importantly, Brady can finally send that tweet as the guy in charge. 

Josh Allen checked something off our Record Book Watch, too. Allen ran for two touchdowns, giving him 81 for his career and moving him into a tie with Frank Gore and Ottis Anderson for No. 20 on the NFL’s all-time rushing touchdown list. 

Of course, Allen did some Josh Allen things along the way, too. He recorded the 26th game-winning drive of his career in the fourth quarter or overtime. That’s the most in the NFL since Allen entered the league in 2018. 

Dalton Kincaid had himself a day. His 130 receiving yards were the most by a Bills player in a Week 1 game since Eric Moulds had 147 in 1999. 

It was also the third-highest single-game receiving total by a tight end in Bills history. Paul Costa owns the only two games ahead of him, with 163 and 138 yards — both in 1967. 

DJ Moore joined Kincaid in the 100-yard club, becoming just the second player in Bills history to reach 100 receiving yards in his debut with the team. John Brown was the first, finishing with 123 yards in his Bills debut in 2019. 

But put Kincaid and Moore together, and things get even wilder. Sunday was just the second game in franchise history in which the Bills had both a wide receiver and a tight end total 100 receiving yards.  

The other time? Andre Reed had 144 yards and Pete Metzelaars had 113 against the San Francisco 49ers in 1992 – and we all know how that season ended. 

The Bills also had not one, but two 96-yard touchdown drives Sunday. 

Since individual drives began being tracked in 1993, Buffalo had never had two touchdown drives of at least 96 yards in the same game. In fact, only four other NFL teams had done it. 

One of those drives came at the end of the first half when Buffalo went 96 yards in three plays and just 41 seconds. How long had it been since the Bills had a touchdown drive of at least 95 yards that took less than a minute without the help of a penalty? 

Try 2009.  

That one was a 98-yard drive against Jacksonville that lasted all of 12 seconds because Ryan Fitzpatrick threw a 98-yard touchdown pass to Terrell Owens. There’s a Bills history sentence for you! 

Greg Rousseau recorded the sixth multi-sack game of his career. The Bills are now 6-0 when Rousseau records multiple sacks. 

Maybe somebody should tell him to just do that every week. 

Tyler Bass did his part in the record book, too. Bass, making his return after missing all of the 2025 season due to a hip/groin injury, made all three of his field-goal attempts, bringing his career total to 134. That moved him past Scott Norwood and into third place on the Bills’ all-time list. 

And, finally, the Bills ended a drought in Houston that was old enough to have its own driver’s license. Sunday was Buffalo’s first road win over the Texans since Week 11 of the 2006 season. 

While they were there, the Bills also put 36 points on a Houston defense that hadn’t allowed that many since Week 16 of the 2023 season.

So, there you have it. Joe Brady is 1-0, Allen keeps climbing record books, Kincaid and Moore joined some pretty exclusive company, the Bills apparently decided 96-yard touchdown drives should come in pairs, and Buffalo finally found a way to leave Houston with a win. 

That seems like plenty to Shout! about as we turn our attention to Week 2.
