The Atlanta Hawks are beginning to trim down their roster towards an eventual list of 15 names plus three two-way names. The team had 16 guaranteed contracts as of early Friday afternoon.

But now, per a report from Jake Fischer of Yahoo and the Stein Line substack blog, Atlanta has chosen to part ways with a player they acquired this very offseason:

The Atlanta Hawks are waiving former lottery pick Devin Carter, according to league sources.

Devin Carter, a guard drafted in the lottery just two offseasons ago, came to the Hawks with a 2033 second-round pick, so it’s clear that move was primarily made to take on the future asset.

Carter is on the books in 2026-27 for around $5.2 million that the Hawks will eat assuming that he goes unclaimed on the waiver wire.
