While the Knicks have enjoyed a nice little 15-5 stretch that has seen their defensive rating jump into the top 10, and come away with victories against some good teams like the Spurs, Raptors, Rockets, Celtics, Lakers, and Nuggets, everyone knows that much of the Knicks’ postseason success rides on the availability of their backup guard, Deuce McBride.

The fifth-year man out of West Virginia has turned into one of the premier role players in the league, combining lethal outside shooting and connectivity on the offensive side, with some of the best point-of-attack defense in the league. But the player some consider to be the best value contract in the league hasn’t suited for the Knicks since New York’s January 27th win against the Sacramento.

When McBride initially underwent surgery for his sports hernia, the reported timeline was, and still is, 6-8 weeks, which put him right around early to mid-April.

While the Knicks have yet to provide a timeline or any update for that matter, Ian Begley of SNY had some good news for Knicks fans on Thursday afternoon.

"I still think there's positivity there, things have been going well.

I don't think there's any reason to fret or worry about Miles McBride not being back and ready to go for the postseason.

That's the trajectory that I've heard about and talked to people about, and I haven't… pic.twitter.com/kpucwAB4E0

“I still think there’s positivity there, things have been going well. I don’t think there’s any reason to fret or worry about Miles McBride not being back and ready to go for the postseason. That’s the trajectory that I’ve heard about and talked to people about, and I haven’t heard anything different than that.” — SNY’s Ian Begley

The Knicks, especially over the last few years, have been incredibly quiet about injuries, and there’s still plenty of time for things to go awry. But for a Knicks team poised to make another deep playoff run, this is amazing news.

It seems like, as long as things continue to progress as they have, New York will have one of their most pivotal pieces back just in time for what could be an incredibly challenging first-round matchup in a surprisingly competitive and stacked Eastern Conference.
