Samsung Explores Ai Exoskeleton That Adjusts Workouts In Real Time
A patent filing describes a wearable device that could use AI to analyze a user’s movement and automatically adjust physical assistance or resistance during a workout
Samsung is exploring a wearable exercise device that could use artificial intelligence to adjust how much resistance or assistance a user receives during a workout.
A newly published patent application from Samsung Electronics describes an exoskeleton that would collect exercise data, including movement speed, joint angles and muscle signals, and use that information to determine how much force an exercise device should apply.
The filing was first highlighted by Patentlyze, which tracks and analyzes technology patents.
According to the application, a user could set an exercise goal before beginning a workout. Samsung’s system would then compare the user’s real-time performance against that target and adjust the torque generated by the wearable device.
In one example described in the filing, the technology could help a user complete an exercise while still keeping the workout aligned with a predetermined goal.
That makes the concept closer to an adaptive strength machine than a traditional wearable. Instead of only measuring what happened during a workout, the device could change the workout itself while it is happening. Samsung’s system could, in theory, act on performance data in real time, not just track it.
While companies routinely patent technologies that never reach the market, the patent adds to a growing body of Samsung filings focused on more personalized exercise technology. Previous Samsung patents include AI-generated exercise plans based on body-composition goals, digital workout demonstrations and wearable resistance systems.
Peloton has also filed patent applications that would allow it to change workouts in real time using AI.
Samsung Builds Out Its Fitness Ecosystem
Samsung is also expanding its investment in AI-powered fitness through its existing consumer ecosystem.
Earlier this year, Samsung and iFIT announced that iFIT’s AI personal trainer, Tailor, would come to compatible Galaxy devices. Tailor uses information including a user’s goals, schedule, workout history and Samsung Health data to generate daily workouts and adjust training plans over time.
That deal built on a partnership first announced in 2025, when Samsung began bringing iFIT workout content directly into Samsung Health. The companies also outlined plans to connect Galaxy devices with iFIT-enabled equipment from brands including NordicTrack and ProForm.
