Schaefer Snipes In Overtime, Shorthanded Islanders With Monumental 4-3 Win In Minnesota

The New York Islanders (7-4-2) concluded their three-game road trip (2-0-1) with a monumental 3-2 win against the Minnesota Wild (9-2-4) in St. Paul on Thursday night.

Matthew Schaefer scored his second of the game in overtime, with a blocker side snipe off a 2-on-1 rush with Simon Holmstrom at the 33-second mark of the extra frame:

Ilya Sorokin, who likely wants the two goals he allowed back, turned aside 22 of 25 shots he faced in the win.

Here's how the game unfolded:

Just 27 seconds into the game, Joel Eriksson Ek sniped Sorokin glove side from the high slot to give Minnesota an early 1-0 lead:

Matthew Schaefer tied his career high by extending his point streak to six games (three goals, three assists) after adding a goal and an assist in the win.

His goal at 16:36 tied the game at 1-1 after he buried an Emil Heineman rebound, short-hopping the puck:
