Sean Mcvay Doesn’t Want To Talk About Rams’ Australia Travel Plans

Reporter Gary Klein asked Sean McVay about the Los Angeles Rams travel plans for Australia and the head coach wouldn’t answer the question. L.A.‘s head coach is usually very approachable, but in this interaction not so much. McVay just didn’t want to talk about it, so the rumors continue of a quick trip Down Under.

If you’ve followed Klein and McVay, then you’ve seen them have back-and-forth’s like this before, nothing out of the ordinary, but it makes the mind wonder: What are the Rams travel plans for Australia and why the secrecy?

McVay is too intentional to not have meaning behind what he does for his football team down to the last detail. He won’t explain the team’s travel plans for Australia, he doesn’t have to and maybe he shouldn’t but in the word of Josh Rosen: Why?

“After ESPN reported this week that the Rams will fly into Melbourne only one day before the game, McVay was asked whether the team has finalized its plans for the trip. He declined to answer, and then proceeded to get into a back-and-forth exchange with the reporter about it.

Reporter: “Have you finalized plans for when you guys are going to leave for Australia? How you’re going to handle that trip?”

McVay: “Yeah, but I’d rather just keep it in-house.”

Reporter: “Why?”

McVay: “What’s the reason to talk about it, you know? Honestly, I would respectfully just say we have, but I’d prefer not to talk about it.”

Reporter: “Is it a strategic thing?”

McVay: “I just don’t want to talk about it. What does it matter?”

Reporter: “Well, fans, I think, are curious.”

McVay: “We won’t be there long enough for the fans to really have any curiosity about it.”

“McVay’s comment regarding not being there long enough for the fans to have curiosity seems to confirm that it will indeed be a short trip.

Surely, McVay has a reason for not elaborating. Maybe he hasn’t had a chance to fully explain it to the players. Maybe some of them are grumbling about it, and he needs to get them to buy in before he takes it public.

Regardless, McVay likely didn’t decide randomly to not address one specific subject. And it’s not as if the Rams will be able to conceal their ultimate itinerary. Everyone will know when they fly to Australia, and everyone will know when they return to L.A.“

The Los Angeles Rams have seen the trend go in their favor regarding Aaron Donald, but the 10-time Pro Bowler has yet to give them a firm answer.

There could be a good reason for that.

Donald has been away from the game for two years. And while he has remained in shape, getting into peak physical form for the rigors of an NFL season–which the Rams hope ends with a trip to the Super Bowl–is a far different endeavor altogether.

Donald drew attention on Friday, similar to how he did when he was spotted walking off one of the Rams’ practice fields following a workout. This time, Donald was back in LA, but seen working out at UCLA’s facilities.

Moreover, he had on a Rams helmet. There was some debate over whether the footage was recent, though. Some were also unsure if the helmet he had on had white or yellow horns.“

“Donald is going all out to determine whether he wants to play again, pulling out all the stops – from ramping up his training regimen to working out at the Los Angeles Rams’ facility. Sean McVay revealed an interesting tidbit during Thursday’s press conference, telling reporters that Donald flew his usual speed trainer out to Los Angeles from Pittsburgh, which shows how serious he is about this possible return.

“He’s got such an intentional routine and rhythm,” McVay said. “He’s had his same speed trainer that he’s worked out with throughout his whole career that he has back at home or back in Pittsburgh that he’s brought out here. He’s taking great care of himself, as we all know. Getting ready to play football and just working out the way that he has, there’s a little bit of a different rhythm and routine. Anything that he does, like I’ve shared with you guys, he’s going to do it with everything that he’s got.”

“The Los Angeles Rams are adding another player to their roster, but it’s not Aaron Donald.

The team announced on Friday that it has signed edge rusher Daniel Rickert, bolstering a position that will need some depth during the preseason.

Rickert is an undrafted rookie out of the University of Virginia. He played five years at Tennessee Tech before transferring to Virginia in 2025, recording 6.5 sacks and eight tackles for a loss in the 14 games he played for the Cavaliers.

After the draft, he received an invite to the Titans’ rookie minicamp but did not sign with the team, leaving him as a free agent.“

“ 1. The run defense looked stout. The Rams’ defensive line regularly swarmed the ball and held the running backs to short gains early in team drills. Screens to Nacua and Simpson’s unit were also stopped before they could develop. One practice cannot settle how a unit will perform during the season, but the front clearly won the first half of this session.

2. Lake made the play of the day. The veteran safety read Bennett in zone coverage, spun back toward the ball and intercepted a pass intended for Nacua. It capped a strong stretch for the secondary. Trent McDuffie broke up a pass intended for Tyler Scott, stayed stride for stride with Terrance Ferguson on another rep and helped limit easy completions downfield.

3. Garrett’s return changed the pass rush. Garrett was back after missing four practices with lower-body soreness. His full workload was easy to miss from my viewing angle, but it’s good to see him back out there.

Garrett’s impact extended beyond those snaps. Between reps, he regularly exchanged ideas with the younger rushers. He explained afterward that those conversations work both ways: the young players can borrow from him, but he also wants to understand their styles without taking away the traits that got them to the NFL.

1. The edge depth is better than it may appear from the outside. Byron Young set the tone with an early run stop. Josaiah Stewart and Braden Fiske later combined to create pressure that forced an incompletion, while defensive coordinator Chris Shula praised Desjuan Johnson, Keir Thomas II and Wesley Bailey after practice. The Rams rotated the group constantly without losing much of its energy or disruption.

Omar Speights added to the physical tone when he met Nacua over the middle and disrupted a pass with a well-timed hit. Both players stayed upright, but the contact produced one of the loudest moments of practice.“

“Rams coach Sean McVay said Thursday that he and Aaron Donald “probably talk every day.”

But it’s apparently still wait and see as to whether the star defensive lineman will return from a two-year retirement and rejoin a Rams team that is favored to win the Super Bowl.

McVay said Donald, a three-time NFL defensive player of the year, “looked great” during a workout on Tuesday at Loyola Marymount with defensive line coach Giff Smith and team trainers, and that Donald was continuing to go through his decision-making process.

“Things are going in the right direction,” McVay said. “He’s feeling good but we’re not to where we’re able to say whether or not he is or isn’t ready to do it.”
