Shiftwave Unveils New Nervous System Regulation Tech At Eudemonia
The Shiftwave Arc combines vibration technology, guided breathwork and personalized software to help users manage stress, recovery and performance
Shiftwave is expanding its nervous system regulation technology with the launch of a new wellness chair and software platform designed to help users manage stress, improve recovery and prepare for physical and mental performance.
To be unveiled at Eudemonia in West Palm Beach, Florida, this week, the Shiftwave Arc combines pulsed pressure waves, guided breathwork and audio experiences in a reclining chair designed by Copenhagen-based industrial designer Jakob Wagner, whose previous work includes headphones for Bang & Olufsen.
The chair, retailing for $20,000, is part of Shiftwave’s new Active Regulation platform, which pairs the company’s hardware with software that recommends personalized sessions based on how users feel, their goals and the time they have available.
“We saw in the lab that gentle wasn’t enough to get people unstuck, so we kept adding power until we could reliably create a shift,” said Shiftwave co-founder and CEO Mike North, Ph.D.
“The Shiftwave Arc gives that power a beautiful new form, and the software adds the intelligence to create a complete Active Regulation platform, so every session lets you choose the moment you want to meet, whether that’s performing in the office or on the field, or just getting a good night’s rest,” he added.
Inside Shiftwave’s New Platform
Shiftwave’s technology is designed to influence the autonomic nervous system, which regulates involuntary bodily functions, including heart rate and the body’s stress response.
The company’s chairs use vibration and guided breathing to alternately stimulate and calm the nervous system, with the goal of helping users transition between heightened alertness and relaxation.
The new software includes a library of more than 100 protocols developed with trainers, psychologists, sports performance coaches and researchers.
Select sessions use Shiftwave’s patented BioDrive technology, which measures a user’s pulse through a sensor on the chair and adjusts vibration patterns in real time.
Users can also track their sessions through four metrics — Engagement, Resilience, Renewal and Inner Form — and connect wearable devices to the platform. The software is available through a new iPhone and iPad app, with Android support planned.
Shiftwave’s existing Pro chair, designed for portability and use in performance facilities, is also compatible with the new platform.
Early Research Shows Promise
Shiftwave is backing its technology with a growing research program examining its potential effects on stress, anxiety and recovery.
According to an October 2026 research overview released by the company, 11 completed field studies involving 362 participants found improvements in self-reported stress, anxiety, pain and relaxation following Shiftwave sessions.
In one pilot involving 22 NCAA Division I athletes at UC Santa Barbara, participants reported improvements in mental readiness and stress following sessions over a two-week period.
The company’s research has also included firefighters, police officers and military personnel.
However, the completed field studies didn’t include control groups, meaning the findings cannot establish whether Shiftwave’s effects exceed those of rest or participants’ expectations.
Eight controlled trials are now in progress or awaiting approval, including studies involving military personnel and researchers at Ohio State University, Appalachian State University and other institutions.
Shiftwave says its technology is already used by teams across all five major U.S. professional sports leagues, along with military installations and performance programs.
First deliveries for the Shiftwave Arc are expected in mid-February. The company is demonstrating the chair and its new software platform at Eudemonia from Nov. 6-8.
