Steelers’ Free Agent Signing Labeled As Under-the-radar Weapon

The Pittsburgh Steelers made several notable additions this offseason. After trading for wide receiver Michael Pittman, Pittsburgh signed the likes of Rico Dowdle, Jamel Dean, and Jaquan Brisker to its roster. One other name they added, though, is flying under the radar.

Defensive lineman Sebastian Joseph-Day joined the Steelers on a two-year, $11 million deal, adding a tremendous veteran presence to Pittsburgh’s front seven. Aaron Schatz of FTN Fantasy and ESPN gave Joseph-Day his flowers, highlighting him as the non-starter that could have a big impact on the Steelers’ season.

“The most important nonstarter is [Nick] Herbig, but we covered him already, so let’s look at some of the strong depth on Pittsburgh’s interior defensive line,” Schatz writes. “Joseph-Day had 41 combined tackles and two sacks for Tennessee last season. The 31-year-old veteran also provides versatility because he can play either 5-tech end or nose for the Steelers.”

Joseph-Day will likely slot in as the No. 4 defensive lineman behind Cam Heyward, Derrick Harmon, and Keeanu Benton. Along with second-year player Yahya Black, Pittsburgh has five legitimate players on its defensive line that can be relied upon to play any number of downs.

Joseph-Day enters the 2026 season with 315 career tackles and 15.5 career sacks.
