The Pittsburgh Steelers are hosting San Diego State defensive back Chris Johnson for a top-30 visit on Tuesday, per Nick Farabaugh of PennLive.

Johnson ran a 4.43 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, and currently projects as an early- to mid-second round pick in April’s draft. He could very well be the first player from a Group of Five school to be selected this April.

The 6’0, 193-pound defensive back is known for his sticky coverage abilities and ability to break on the ball, as he showed with four interceptions in 2025 despite only having two through his first three years in college.

The Steelers made it a point this offseason to go out and get a running mate for Joey Porter Jr. on the outside, and they did by signing Jamel Dean from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They also made the move of signing former Bears safety Jaquan Brisker, perhaps to play alongside DeShon Elliott This would, of course, move Jalen Ramsey back down to play corner, where he can still provide valuable reps on the outside or slot.

If the Steelers decide to use an early pick on Johnson, it will be interesting to see where he finds a role early in the season. Pittsburgh is Johnson’s third known top-30 visit, after having one with the Chiefs and Seahawks last week.
