The Pittsburgh Steelers have traded Broderick Jones to the Dallas Cowboys. The trade comes on the evening before final 53-man rosters are due around the league. Per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Cowboys sent Pittsburgh a third- and sixth-round pick in exchange for a fourth-round pick and Jones.

The Steelers traded up to select Jones 14th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft. Jones suffered a brutal neck injury during Week 12 of the 2025 season against the Chicago Bears. The injury required Jones to receive spinal fusion surgery. After little to no updates on the injury through the offseason, Jones was surprisingly activated from the PUP list just one day before training camp began.

Jones’ availability seemed to come as a shock to everyone, including the Steelers. Pittsburgh selected their third offensive tackle in four years in April by selecting Max Iheanachor out of Arizona State. This move allowed the Steelers to have Troy Fautanu switch back to his primary position of left tackle, while almost certainly meaning that Jones’ time as a starter had come to an end.

Just last week, Jones expressed frustration with all of the moving around he has done during the summer. Jones was playing about 15 pounds underweight throughout training camp. A fresh start for Jones seemed to be in the best interest of both sides. Now the Steelers have an extra roster spot available, and future draft capital to continue to build with.
