Steve Kerr Drops Red-flag Warning On Kristaps Porzingis’ Mysterious Ailment

The Golden State Warriors would love to have a healthy Kristaps Porziņģis on the court this season. Especially after the team signed him to a two-year, $40 million extension this offseason.

Unfortunately, that hope isn’t off to a good start. The 31-year-old veteran missed preseason training camp with what was only called a “health issue” and still isn’t with the team, despite the Warriors’ regular season opener being 12 days away.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr delivered an ominous update on Porziņģis’ status when speaking to the media on Thursday.

“He’s not here uh today,” Kerr said of Porziņģis. He later added, “I’ll reach out to to KP today and and check in with him, but nothing new to report.”

Porziņģis was diagnosed as POTS (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome) in 2025. This current absence hasn’t been confirmed as a byproduct of POTS, but that seems to be the prevailing belief.

Kerr was also asked whether he has been in communication with Porziņģis this offseason and whether he knows how he’s doing and said, “Yeah, we’ve texted. Seems to be doing okay, but we haven’t gotten into into depth.”

“Obviously, we’d rather have KP here and [be] part of [the Warriors’ preseason]. But he’s got to take care of his health, and again, we’ll support that and keep moving forward with the team,” Kerr added.

Kerr made waves when calling Porziņģis’ medical issue “a little mysterious” last season. That same mystery persisted when he was a member of the Boston Celtics.

Golden State was hoping that mystery would subside. Alas, that does not appear to be the case.
