Okereke, entering age 30 and his 8th NFL season, provides some veteran stability opposite of LB Devin Lloyd. The Panthers entered the preseason allowing that slot to be up for grabs between Trevin Wallace, Claudin Cherelus, and a bevy of undrafted free agents and former late round draft picks. With this move, it appears the Panthers are pulling the plug on that approach and grabbing a veteran to fill that slot for now. Okereke started 46 games over the last 3 seasons for the New York Giants, where he was fairly solid. He might be on the down turn of his career, but the Panthers could not seem to figure out that second interior linebacker spot during the preseason.
