The Sequence That Cost The Cowboys The Game In New York

Before getting into anything else, it should be said that the Dallas Cowboys got thoroughly worked by the New York Giants on Sunday night. They deserved the 28-20 win as they outplayed the Cowboys in almost every way.

The trio of Jaxson Dart, Cam Skattebo and Isiah Likely tortured Dallas all night. John Harbaugh has the G-men playing ball again. The NFC should take note.

But the game didn’t really have to go that way. There was a moment in time when the Cowboys could have seized control. Right around the two-minute warning to end the first half, the Cowboys recovered a fumble at their own 16-yard line, preventing a score and giving themselves a chance to break a 7-7 tie.

The Giants had controlled the early part of the game, but Dallas was back in it with a chance to take the lead heading into halftime.

Then the mistakes started to happen. First, Dak Prescott dropped a dime on George Pickens deep into the Giants secondary, but Pickens dropped it. Then, facing a third down, Dak made a huge error. He decided to launch a desperation heave to save a sack, but instead of getting it out of bounds, he threw an interception. New York took over with 58 seconds left before the half at the 45-yard line.

Then the defense just fell apart. It took the Giants 29 seconds to cover 55 yards and score a touchdown. 29 seconds.

The Giants went into halftime leading 14-7. They got the second half kickoff, drove that for a touchdown and it Dallas was in catch up mode the rest of the way. They never caught up.
