Titans Reportedly Make Peter Skoronski Nfl's Highest-paid Guard, Sign Lg To 4-year, $100 Million Extension

NFL teams have doled out plenty of cash to guards this offseason. The Tennessee Titans have reportedly reset the market in that department.

Tennessee announced Friday that it inked left guard Peter Skoronski to a multi-year extension, which, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, spans four years and is worth $100 million. The deal reportedly comes with $88 million guaranteed and makes him the highest-paid guard in the NFL.

The Titans selected Skoronski with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2023 draft out of Northwestern. Three years later, they're rewarding him handsomely. Tennessee is banking on him anchoring an offensive line that's tasked with setting up second-year quarterback Cam Ward for success.

"This is a tremendous blessing," Skoronski, 25, said in a statement. "It's a reflection of the work, sacrifice and support that has helped me get to this point, and I don't take any of it for granted."

He added: "From the moment I got here, this is where I wanted to be. I love this organization, I love this city, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to continue representing this franchise. I appreciate the faith they've shown in me, and now it's my job to earn it every day. I'm excited for what's ahead, but more than anything, I'm ready to get back to work."

On Skoronski's new contract, he'll be making $25 million per year. The previous leader in average annual value at the position was Dallas Cowboys left guard Tyler Smith, who is making $24 million per year, per Over the Cap. Atlanta Falcons left guard Matthew Bergeron is also reportedly set to earn $24 million per year on his new extension.

The Titans picked up Skoronski's fifth-year option this offseason and kept working on a long-term deal. They had reason to, especially considering what he's done for the franchise so far. The durability he showcased in the Big Ten has largely translated to the pros.

He hasn't missed a start each of the past two seasons. Last time he was around, he was the Titans' lone player who didn't miss a single offensive snap, the team reported. In the process, according to Pro Football Focus, he conceded just two sacks and 23 pressures, both career lows.

Additionally, he helped pave the way for running back Tony Pollard's 1,000-yard rushing season.

Skoronski, whom the Titans nominated for last season's Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award, has excelled inside for Tennessee after switching over from left tackle, where he starred at Northwestern.

"We couldn't be happier to keep Peter in Nashville," general manager Mike Borgonzi said in a statement. "The goal will always be to retain people and players who are cornerstones of our organization, and Peter is certainly that for us."
