Tony Romo Says He's Going To Grandparents House In Bodycam Footage From Arrest

Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback and current CBS Sports broadcaster Tony Romo was arrested in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin on the night of July 23, according to police records obtained by USA TODAY Sports.

According to the records, Romo is accused of operating a vehicle while under the influence (OWI). Romo was stopped going southbound on I-43 and "performed poorly on SFSTs (standard field sobriety tests)." On July 28, new details came to light after bodycam footage surfaced.

Obtained by TMZ, the footage showed what took place during the stop and led to his arrest. Romo explained he was heading to his grandparents' home at the time of the stop, which occurred after the quarterback left a golf tournament nearby.

According to the officer, the reason for the stop was "unsafe passing on the right," and "cutting across the gore."

Romo explained he was coming from the golf course, where he was playing in the Wisconsin Amateur Championship, and heading to his grandparent's house. After giving his license and phone number, the officer requested that Romo step out of the vehicle for field sobriety tests.

The quarterback repeatedly asked the officer if he could call his lawyer prior stepping out of the car. The officer declined to allow the call and again requested him to get out of the vehicle.

Romo complied. The officer explained that he was being detained pending an OWI investigation. He was placed into the back of the police car and taken for field testing.

Later footage showed Romo during the field testing, where he was seen stretching and apologized, noting that his history of back surgeries made it difficult to bend over.

He declined to submit to a breathalyzer test, saying all you ever hear from lawyers is, "don't ever do that."

Romo asked the officer if he passed the test and was told to turn around. The quarterback was then placed under arrest.

Romo has a court date set for Sept. 21 at 8:30 a.m. CT, according to his arrest report.
