Top Eagles storylines at 2026 NFL owners meetings originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia

PHOENIX — There aren’t very many breaks in the NFL calendar.

The first few waves of free agency are in the rearview but we’re now less than a month away from the 2026 draft.

The NFL’s top decision-makers — owners, general managers and head coaches — will all meet this week at the luxurious Arizona Biltmore for the NFL’s annual meetings.

Here are some key Eagles storylines we’ll be following:

Hearing from Jeffrey Lurie

We don’t get to speak with Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie very often. In fact, the last time he spoke with a large group of reporters was this time last year in Palm Beach, Florida.

There will be plenty of questions for Lurie on Tuesday afternoon after a somewhat disappointing 2025 season. Sure, the Eagles were able to repeat as NFC East champions but their offense underperformed all season and the Eagles had a quick wild-card round exit in January. In Nick Sirianni’s five seasons as head coach, the Eagles have had a first-round exit three times and have gotten to the Super Bowl twice.

This offseason, the Eagles moved on from offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo and brought in 33-year-old Sean Mannion to take over. This represents a major change because Mannion is expected to implement his own version of the Shanahan offense in Philly. How does Lurie feel about that? And how does he feel about Jeff Stoutland’s decision to walk away? More importantly, how does Lurie feel about the possibility that Sirianni’s management during the 2025 season helped lead to that decision.

Another topic for Lurie will be about the potential of a new stadium in Philadelphia — perhaps one with a roof. Lurie spoke about this topic ahead of Super Bowl LIX but we haven’t heard a ton about it since.

Last year, one of the biggest topics discussed with Lurie was about the future of the Tush Push, but that play isn’t in danger this offseason.

Howie explains the offseason

Every year at the owners meetings, general manager Howie Roseman speaks to reporters and it’s one of the most beneficial availabilities all year. It’s so beneficial because Roseman can actually explain what went down during free agency and can explain the moves he made or didn’t make. We’ll hear from him on Sunday evening.

The Eagles lost plenty of talented players in free agency, which wasn’t much of a surprise. They tried to keep Jaelan Phillips before they were priced out. And their biggest addition was Riq Woolen on a $12 million deal.

Roseman of course will be asked about A.J. Brown and the situation that still hovers over the organization. Just don’t expect him to say too much.

More moves coming?

The Eagles were pretty quiet in the first week of free agency but have tried to plug as many holes as possible with one-year deals since. Roseman is always going to look to bring in talent whenever he can and we have seen that in his track record.

Here’s a look at some of the veteran additions Roseman has made in recent seasons after March.

2025: Matt Pryor, Ogbo Okoronkwo, Jakorian Bennett, John Metchie III, Fred Johnson, Britain Covey, Marcus Epps

2024: Mekhi Becton, Nick Gates, Jahan Dotson

2023: Olamade Zaccheaus, D’Andre Swift, Zach Cunningham

2022: A.J. Brown, James Bradberry, C.J. Gardner-Johnson

While there weren’t any home runs late last year, all of those players were on the 53-man roster and contributed at some point. And they were all added in April-August. It’s just a reminder that the roster, even after the draft, is far from complete.

Breakfast with Nick

Back in the day, these breakfast sessions with NFL head coaches lasted an hour. These days, they have been cut down to 30 minutes. But it’s still valuable time with the head coach do dig a little deeper on his new-look coaching staff as well as some of the new players on the roster.

All of the NFC coaches are available Monday morning, while the AFC coaches are available on Tuesday morning. The Eagles table has historically been the one that fills up the earliest every year.

The rule change proposals

A year ago, the biggest topic at the annual meetings was about the fate of the Tush Push. That play apparently got much safer last season when the Eagles were no longer as good at it. Interesting.

The Eagles were not listed on any playing rules or bylaw proposals to be voted on this week. In fact, all five of the playing rule proposals are coming from the NFL’s Competition Committee. For any proposal to pass, they will need 24 of 32 owners to sign off.

Here are some of the key proposals:

• The Competition Committee proposed a rule change to allow a kicking team to declare an onside kick at any time.

• The Competition Committee proposed for one year only, if there’s a work stoppage with the NFL Referees Association, to allow the NFL Officiating Department to correct clear and obvious mistakes made by replacement refs.

• The Competition Committee proposed to allow league personnel to consult with on-field official when considering disqualifications for flagrant football and non-football actions without being called on the field.

• The Browns proposed a bylaw change that would allow teams to trade draft picks five years into the future instead of the current maximum of three years.

• The Steelers have proposed to make permanent allowing teams up to five phone or video calls with pending free agents during the negotiating window. That was allowed on a trial basis in 2025.

A look ahead to the draft

We’re less than a month away from the 2026 draft. While Roseman will still look to add veterans to the roster, the main focus will now shift to the draft, where the Eagles have a ton of picks this year and next.

For now, here are the Eagles’ nine picks in the 2026 draft:

Round 1-23
Round 2-54
Round 3-68
Round 3-98
Round 4-114
Round 4-137
Round 5-153
Round 5-178
Round 6-197
