The Buffalo Bills are bringing back a familiar name in fan-favorite cornerback Tre’Davious White. ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter reports that White is signing to the Bills’ practice squad, “where he will acclimate before joining their active roster.”

Making is third stint with One Bills Drive, the 31-year-old White was the first player selected by former head coach Sean McDermott — going 27th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft following a blockbuster trade involving the Kansas City Chiefs. White has played in 98 games across eight seasons for Buffalo, making 19 interceptions, 78 pass defenses, five forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, one fumble return for a touchdown, three sacks, six quarterback hits, 351 tackles (271 solo), and 18 tackles for loss (per Pro Football Reference).

The timing of White’s signing make sense with the Bills headed into their bye week. It remains to be seen how and where White will slot in once signed to the active roster.

One could envision White initially serving as a depth cornerback in a key mentorship role for rookie cornerback Davison Igbinosun. We’ll find out in time how White’s signing impacts second-year cornerback Maxwell Hairston.
