What the Saints can do at #8
Now focusing on the Saints’ selection at #8, we are focusing on yet another WR for this team. Same reasoning as last week, building around Tyler Shough is a must to truly see what the second-year QB can do with a better offense. If the Saints can fix RB and the interior offensive lineman before the draft, the only big need, besides another TE, is WR. The odds that one of the three WRs (Carnell Tate, Jordyn Tyson, and Makai Lemon) is available at #8 is very high, and they would be the last main piece for the offense.
This time around, we will be talking about Carnell Tate. Coming out of Ohio State, Tate was the WR2 in their offense, but he plays like a WR1. The fact that he was not the top WR on his team is a drawback for many, but as I just mentioned, Tate is a top WR talent, and a second option in Ohio State’s offense has found success in the NFL. At 6-foot-3, Tate is an excellent contested catch receiver who is able to adjust to passes and secure the ball. His ability to be the QB’s best friend is excellent, and while the Saints dealt with players adjusting to the passing game this past season, it would not be an issue with Tate.
As a route runner, he has some limitations, but when he beats corners, they are left in the dust. Once those defenders are beaten, Tate’s speed makes him an excellent vertical threat. He can fit all types of roles in an offense, and for New Orleans, would be an excellent complement to Chris Olave.
