Victor Wembanyama Sets Playoff Blocks Record With Triple-double Vs. T-wolves
For Victor Wembanyama, the 2026 NBA Playoffs are a collection of firsts. Add two more to the list.
Playing in the conference semifinal round for the first time in his career, Wembanyama, the San Antonio Spurs phenom forward-center, swatted away 7 blocks in the first half Monday, May 4 against the Minnesota Timberwolves, marking the most ever by a Spurs player in a playoff half since 1997.
That total was just one shy of Dwight Howard’s record for most blocks in any postseason half in the play-by-play era.
But Wembanyama's block party didn't stop there.

The 7-foot-4 All-Star was up to 10 before the end of the third quarter. Then he swatted another early in the fourth quarter to break the NBA record for most blocks in a postseason game. Then he added one more to reach an astouding 12.
Wembanyama broke the mark – since blocks were first compiled in 1973-74 – shared by the the Los Angeles Lakers' Andrew Bynum (April 29, 2012 vs. Denver), the Houston Rockets' Hakeem Olajuwon (April 29, 1990 vs. the Lakers) and the Utah Jazz's Mark Eaton (April 26, 1985 vs. Houston), who each blocked 10 shots in a playoff game.

And Wembanyama still wasn't done. The 2026 Defensive Player of the Year reached a rare points-rebounds-blocks triple-double with 43.6 seconds remaining, ending the game with 11 points and 15 rebounds to go along with his 12 blocks.
But it wasn't enough for the Spurs as Julius Randle and Anthony Edwards, who returned from a knee injury, powered the Timberwolves to a 104-102 victory to steal Game 1 on the road.
