Warriors' Brandin Podziemski cites ‘patience' as biggest lesson in NBA career originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

It might be hard to believe Warriors guard Brandin Podziemski is entering his fourth NBA season at just 23 years old.

Speaking with NBC Sports Bay Area’s Bonta Hill and Dalton Johnson on “Dubs Talk,” Podziemski detailed the importance of taking his time as he grows within a championship-level organization.

“Obviously, it’s well known I want to be great, and I want to accomplish things individually and as a team,” Podziemski said. “But it requires patience, learning, actually going through those situations being guarded by the number one, number two guys. That all takes time, and you think you can just skip that step, but everything is a step the same way it was for Steph (Curry) and Klay (Thompson) when they were younger.”

Since being selected with the 19th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, Podziemski has been a mainstay in the Warriors’ rotation.

Podziemski has spent more time as a Warrior than the majority of the roster, despite being five months younger than rookie Yaxel Lendeborg, earning coach Steve Kerr’s trust over the years.

The Santa Clara graduate finished top-five in minutes per game in each of his three seasons in the NBA, culminating in a five-year, $110 million contract extension signed earlier this month.

Podziemski also understands how lucky he is to inherit a situation with Kerr and Curry as his veteran mentors.

“I try to express gratitude and really look back at things for myself, and I’m in a position that no other young guy has really been in for a long time since Steph and Klay,” Podziemski added. “So I’m grateful for that.”

Of the guards Golden State has drafted since Curry in 2009 and Thompson in 2011, Jordan Poole is the only player to average more points per game during their Warriors tenure than Podziemski.

With the 38-year-old Curry being managed more than ever by Kerr, and stars Jimmy Butler and Kristaps Porziņģis currently dealing with injury woes, Podziemski might finally see his patience pay off in a larger offensive role this season.
