The NFL’s legal tampering period started yesterday at noon, and there was plenty of action. That action didn’t get to the Washington Commanders until reports came out that they had agreed to a 2-year extension with LT Laremy Tunsil. The first free agent “signing” from another team was a letdown if you were expecting the promised fireworks from Washington when free agency started. Lions CB Amik Robertson agreed to a 2-year deal, but only provided sparklers for a fanbase looking for top talent to revive a team that went 5-12 last season.

The fourth hour of legal tampering only gave the fanbase another re-signing, but it was an important one. Backup QB Marcus Mariota is returning for another year, and the crowd went mild. If you were one of the many fans asking for proof that Adam Peters was alive, had access to Josh Harris’s password for the salary cap funds, and was willing/allowed to spend it; the good news came with the announcement that Chargers DE Odafe Oweh had agreed to terms on a 4-year, $100 million deal. Adam Peters lives! The first day of legal tampering ended with a homecoming. Former Redskins 5th-round pick Tim Settle Jr. agreed to return to Washington on a three-year deal.

The new league year starts tomorrow at 4pm. Contracts reported for free agents with expiring contracts during the two day legal tampering window won’t be official until the new league year starts. Washington was still signing a few of their pending free agents before they hit the market, and none of their FAs agreed to deals with other teams.

The big one that got away from Washington was WR Alec Pierce, but the Colts re-signed. Do believe he would have been here but…he never came free so he's not. As for Jaelen Phillips, @AdamSchefter reported Wash and the Eagles were outbid by Carolina.

RB Tyler Allgeier agrees to a 2-year deal with the Cardinals. For $12.25M and max of $16.25M, per source.

Washington was not in the mix, I'm told.

The Commanders are signing veteran CB Amik Robertson to a two-year, $16 million with $9.3 million guaranteed, per sources. @marlonmoore1 and @TR_RES of @AthEliteAgency negotiated the deal. pic.twitter.com/Onl7bzgpA3

Entering FA, sense was Chig Okonkwo was higher on Washington's list than Likely. Was told they wouldn't overspend at the position. Not sure yet what constitutes overspending yet. Okonkwo would provide a move TE that they could use. https://t.co/gZWBPMG4H6

Colts' deal with Alec Pierce has actually been done and agreed to for a few days.

The Commanders made an aggressive push for Alec Pierce before he ultimately decided to stay with the Colts, per sources. New England also was in it. pic.twitter.com/343RYcq5fU

The Commanders:

– “Are among the teams in the mix for” Alec Pierce
– “Are closely watching” Romeo Doubs’ market
– “Could emerge as a sleeper” for Mike Evans
– Will be considered by Kenneth Walker III
– Have been linked to Rico Dowdle
