What Moses Moody told Rick Celebrini in 4 a.m. phone call after knee injury originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

Moses Moody apparently didn’t need much time to find perspective after his season-ending knee injury.

Warriors vice president of player health and performance Rick Celebrini received an unexpected phone call from Moody around 4:30 a.m. after Golden State returned home from its 137-131 overtime win over the Dallas Mavericks late last month, per The Athletic’s Marcus Thompson II.

Celebrini initially feared something had gone wrong with Moody’s injured knee, but instead, Moody called to share the mindset he already had just hours after suffering the most serious injury of his basketball career.

“I’ve noticed in my life that every time something goes bad for me, something good comes of it,” Moody told Celebrini.

Rather than searching for reassurance, Moody already was looking ahead to what could come next.

The conversation came after Moody ruptured the patellar tendon in his left knee during overtime when he went down attempting a breakaway dunk in the final minute. He later was stretchered off the floor.

The 23-year-old subsequently was ruled out for the remainder of the 2025-26 NBA season.

Before the injury, Moody was in the midst of a breakout fifth NBA campaign, averaging career highs of 12.1 points and 25.7 minutes while shooting 44 percent from the field and 40.1 percent from 3-point range over 60 games.

Moody’s reported comments to Celebrini align with the positive outlook he later shared publicly during rehab.

“My knee’s been bothering me for a while. From middle school to high school, and it’s all been patellar tendon,” Moody told reporters April 11. “So I’m glad to finally get it fixed.”

Moody added he believes he can return in an even better position physically once his rehab is complete.

If the 4 a.m. phone call is any indication, that mentality began the same night everything changed.
