The Buffalo Bills returned from their little field trip to Houston fairly healthy, but now as they prepare to face the Detroit Lions on Thursday Night Football’s Week 2 airing, they aren’t going to have much time to heal up what things bumps and bruises they are dealing with.

The first report of Week 2 is a little longer than last week’s, but it’s still not scary.

NOTE: This tracker will be updated following each injury report leading up to kickoff.

Buffalo Bills injury report

Wednesday

It’s important to remember that the Bills did not actually practice on Monday. This list just represents what they estimate participation would have been had they actually done anything much more than film work and rest and recovery exercises.

Limited Practice

  • LB Terrel Bernard – Calf
  • RB Ty Johnson – Hamstring
  • DL T.J. Sanders – Knee

Full Practice

  • S Cole Bishop – Knee/Groin
  • OLB Bradley Chubb – Thumb
  • DB Jordan Hancock – Quad

What we’re watching

The good news is that DJ Moore’s quick trip to the medical tent Sunday afternoon, along with Josh Allen’s temporary hand discomfort, didn’t amount to anything.

I would expect Ty Johnson to return this week, but if he does, what does that mean for Frank Gore, Jr.? The second-year running back was called up from the practice squad Sunday and out snapped Ray Davis on offense. In fact, the Bills’ fourth running back doubled Davis’s snaps: Gore, Jr. 10, Davis 5. Offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael, Jr. — or Joe Brady depending on how we want to look at the Buffalo offense – seemed very content using Gore, Jr. in a blocking role.

It’s unlikely that Bernard will be unavailable, but if he can’t we could see Shaq Thompson called up from the practice squad.

Detroit Lions injury report

Wednesday

No Practice

  • OG Christian Mahogany
  • OT Blake Miller

Limited Practice

  • OL Juice Scruggs

Full Practice

  • S Christian Izien

What we’re watching

Miller and Scruggs are the blockers to monitor on this short week for the Lions. The former was the club’s first-round pick out of Clemson and played 77 snaps in Week 1. Only allowed one pressure. Scruggs is Detroit’s starting center, and he also played on all 77 offensive snaps for Detroit in their Week 1 victory.

If Miller can’t go, veteran Larry Borom is the Lions swing tackle. He’s appeared in 64 games with 38 starts in his six seasons to date.

As for Scruggs, who, at this point, seems more likely to play than Miller, if he’s unavailable for Thursday night’s game, the Lions would have to do some positional shuffling, as they don’t have a dedicated backup center on the 53-man roster right now.
