Despite being under one umbrella, Daimler-Benz and Chrysler just could not figure out how to work together. DaimlerChrysler CEO Jürgen E. Schrempp considered the merger a “marriage of equals” even though its existence was plagued with contentious investor and stakeholder relations. One of the good things that came out of that merger was our Pick of The Day, this 2005 Chrysler Crossfire SRT6 coupe is currently listed for sale with on ClassicCars.com by a dealer in Canton, Ohio.

The Crossfire was unveiled at the 2001 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The vehicle’s sculpted fastback appearance excited stakeholders about what the recent transatlantic merger could bring to the marketplace. “You could just see the pure emotion in show-goers’ reaction to the Chrysler Crossfire,” said Wolfgang Bernhard, then Chrysler Group’s chief operating officer. “Their eyes lit up with enthusiasm. They didn’t ask if we were going to build it, they practically demanded that we build it.” And build it they did.

The same lines that made Auto Show attendees stand in awe in 2001 are still present in this 2005 model. Its Graphite Metallic paint helps showcase Chrysler’s low-slung design that stretches from its long hood to the wide rear end that holds the trim-specific fixed rear spoiler. Other exterior features include a front fascia air dam, factory SRT6 wheels wrapped in staggered-width radial tires, and dual power-adjustable side mirrors.

In the cockpit of this Teutonic-American sports car sit two black leather-bolstered bucket seats flanking a center console holding an automatic shifter, window and climate controls, and factory stereo. In front of the driver is the special SRT6 instrument cluster that shows 200 mph and a 7,000-rpm redline. Whoever is behind the wheel can also take advantage of the cruise control and air conditioning for long-distance drives.

Under the hood is a supercharged Mercedes-Benz AMG M112 3.2-liter V-6 rated a 330 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to a five-speed automatic transmission with AutoStick technology.

This SRT6 boasted the same performance suspension, braking, and drivetrain components that were found on the 2005 Mercedes-Benz SLK 32 AMG. This makes sense when you consider the fact that Crossfire was built utilizing the SLK’s platform.

If you buy this 2005 Chrysler Crossfire SRT6 coupe, you will have one of 2,571 built at a cost of $15,995 — not a bad deal for a rare car that should be fun to drive.
