De'von Achane Not In Attendance For Dolphins' Voluntary Workouts

The Miami Dolphins are down a man to start the Jeff Hafley era.

De'Von Achane is not in attendance as the team's voluntary offseason workouts begin, head coach Jeff Hafley announced on April 7. With Achane entering the final year of his deal, the Pro Bowler is in search of a new contract, something that hasn't materialized yet.

"I think those are talks for another time between Achane and [GM Jon-Eric Sullivan] and those guys," Hafley said, when asked for his thoughts on the situation.

"That's part of the business. It's part of what every team goes through in those situations and they'll work it out."

The 24-year-old's future in Miami came into question this offseason, following a major roster remodel after the hiring of Hafley and Sullivan. The new regime has already parted ways with Tua TagovailoaTyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Bradley Chubb and more.

However, Achane isn't likely to be in the market for real estate in another NFL city anytime soon.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on March 18 that the Dolphins aren't making the running back available for trade.

Whether that remains the case depends on what other teams are willing to offer. After all, the general manager did make it clear that any player can be had for the right price.

"My job as the general manager, if the phone rings, I have to listen," Sullivan told reporters at the NFL combine on Feb. 24. "Any player is tradable at a certain price, but there are certain guys that we definitely want to be part of the long-term future, that are on this roster currently that we think are the right kind of guys.

"They're wired the right way. They infuse the locker room with the right kind of grit, toughness, leadership that you're looking for and they're good players on the field."

It's unclear what that price is, but Sullivan has spoken highly of the running back since being hired.

"Achane's production speaks for itself," Sullivan said in an interview with the Dolphins' YouTube channel. "He's a three-down back. He can strike from anywhere on the field. He's a home run guy."

He might not be present for voluntary workouts, but they are voluntary for a reason. There is still plenty of time before the Dolphins have to think about hitting the panic button.
