Lessons From An Obama Speechwriter | Terry Szuplat | Tedxeuropean University Institute Florence
Nearly 500 speeches for a US President and one lesson that matters most: the speech that works is the one only you can give. Terry Szuplat turns from writing other people’s words to a talk about finding and trusting our own voice.
This talk was part of the first edition of TEDxEuropean University Institute Florence, held at Palazzo Buontalenti, home to the Florence School of Transnational Governance of the European University Institute (EUI), in the former courtroom of the Court of Appeal of Florence (Italy).
Theme: “Agents of Change” Terry Szuplat is a former White House speechwriter who worked with President Barack Obama from 2009 to 2017.
He helped craft nearly 500 speeches on foreign policy, security, and human rights.
Since leaving the White House, Szuplat has drawn on this experience to help leaders in politics, business, and civil society become better communicators. His lessons are also collected in 'Say It Well', which debuted on USA Today's list of top-selling books in America, has since appeared in more than 50 countries, and has been translated into nine languages. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
