Manchester United Release Financial Results With Revenue And Debt Both On The Rise

Manchester United posted record revenues in their most recent financial results. The club states it continues to benefit from Sir Jim Ratcliffe's operational cost-cutting and workforce reductions, alongside an improved third-place Premier League finish during the 2025/26 season.

Despite recording a full-year operating profit of £22.6 million ($30 million), United once again reported an overall loss for the year of £43 million ($57 million), compared to £33 million ($44.9 million) the previous year (as per the relevant exchange rate).

United's revenue, however, climbed by 1.7 percent compared to 2024/25, which the club believes demonstrates that they are heading in the right direction, given they had no European soccer and no training kit sponsor in place. In total, United posted record revenues of £677.6 million ($898.8 million), up from £666.5 million ($909 million) in the prior full year, as per The Mirror.

The club believes greater "financial discipline" is required to stabilize the business following the recorded loss. United have acknowledged that the dismissal of Ruben Amorim earlier this year contributed to those losses. However, the latest figures reveal that Amorim's departure, along with his backroom staff, cost just £8.2 million (around $11 million) — significantly less than the £36.6 million (around $50 million) United spent on severance packages, including that of his predecessor Erik ten Hag, the season before.

Meanwhile, debt levels at United continue to climb, though this is partly attributable to shifts in interest rates and the refinancing of certain bonds in June of this year.

United report that "non-current borrowings" now total £577.6 million ($766.2 million), an increase from £471.9 million ($650 million) the previous year. The club also maintains a revolving credit facility, functioning like a credit card, which registered £100 million ($132.5 million) at the close of June 2026.

Additionally, United's matchday revenue decreased by £6.8 million ($9 million), an unsurprising outcome considering the club hosted 10 fewer fixtures at Old Trafford last season, stemming from the absence of European competition and early exits from both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

Again, United's wage expenditure declined, falling to £302 million ($400.6 million), with the club attributing this to "primarily due to changes in the make-up of the men's first team squad, combined with savings associated with headcount reduction programs implemented over the previous two fiscal years."

United Chief Executive Officer Omar Berrada said: "We are pleased to have secured record revenues and adjusted EBITDA which demonstrates the underlying strength of our business, particularly in a season without European football. This shows the direct impact of the work we have been doing over the past two years.

"It also proves Manchester United's enduring popularity and commercial strength. While these results confirm that we are on the right trajectory, we will continue to take a disciplined approach to ensure our finances remain sustainable.

"With that financial sustainability in mind, we have strengthened both our men's and women's teams during the summer window and our men's team has seen the return of Champions League football to Old Trafford.

"We have also strengthened commercially and have welcomed Betway as our new Training Kit partner and SumUp as our new Sleeve partner; two excellent organizations which we are delighted to be working with, alongside our kit supplier, adidas and front of shirt partner, Snapdragon.

"Our other main area of focus is our plan to develop a new 100,000-seater stadium. We have now completed the major milestone of securing the land which will form part of the proposed location of the new stadium."

In addition, United laid a brand-new pitch at Old Trafford for the first time in 14 years over the summer, with the old surface having been cut into 7cm x 7cm (2.8 x 2.8 inch) squares. The Red Devils have endured a disheartening opening to the 2026/27 season. They have secured just one victory from their first five Premier League fixtures, drawing two and losing two. However, United began their return to the UEFA Champions League with a comfortable 4-0 demolition of Sabah, but were later eliminated from the Carabao Cup by Brighton and Hove Albion.
