Ron Desantis Publicly Disavows Embattled Gop Rep: ‘i Do Not Support Cory Mills’

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) made clear on Friday that he doesn’t plan to endorse Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) for re-election, telling reporters, “I do not support” the scandal-ridden candidate.

Mills, who has been endorsed by President Donald Trump, is facing a crowded Republican primary on Aug. 18 amid a series of controversies, including allegations of domestic violence and harassment, accusations of stolen valor from fellow veterans, scrutiny of his business dealings and financial disclosures, and a House Ethics Committee investigation. Mills has denied wrongdoing.

The incumbent has also lost support from prominent Republicans in his home state. Reps. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) and Mike Haridopolos (R-FL) recently endorsed former TV journalist Ryan Elijah, Mills’ leading primary challenger, while Rep. Kat Cammack (R-FL) has publicly criticized Mills over allegations made by his ex-girlfriend Lindsey Langston. Not to mention, in November of 2025, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) introduced a resolution on the House floor to censure the embattled congressman.

The Florida governor’s comments came during a Friday speech at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach. While the unnamed reporter’s initial question couldn’t be heard in the video, DeSantis restated, “So this is a question about the 7th congressional district Republican primary.”

He continued, “Um, I have not, uh, endorsed Cory Mills, and I do not support Cory Mills.”

The governor was next met with silence before declaring, “Okay. God bless everybody. Great to see you. Take care.” He then walked away from the podium.

Here, DeSantis was decidedly breaking with Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson, who, when asked in July about Mills and Rep. Max Miller (R-OH), who has also faced major allegations of domestic abuse, dismissed concerns about both lawmakers.

“Well, the key word there is ‘allegation.’ We have a process here — the House Ethics Committee works on those things. If allegations are made, they work through a process,” said Johnson at the time.
