Mayim Bialik recently opened up about which co-stars from The Big Bang Theory she remains closest with even after the show’s conclusion. The actress who played Amy Farrah Fowler in the original sitcom is reprising her role in a new spinoff series.

Speaking with People, Bialik revealed that John Ross Bowie and Kevin Sussman are among the co-stars she feels closest to today. Both actors are reprising their roles in the spin-off series, called Stuart Fails to Save the Universe.

The actress and former game show host explained her deep respect for Sussman’s talent and expressed her joy at watching him transition into a leading role. While she also mentioned co-stars, the 50-year-old admitted that her strongest emotional connections remain with Bowie and Sussman.

“But in terms of the emotional connection, I like being able to reach out to John and to Kevin and to be able to say, ‘I do not have any memory in my career of being this excited for another actor,” Bialik told the publication.

She later mentioned Melissa Rauch, who played Bernadette Rostenkowski-Wolowitz, as her close friend. “I’m very close with Melissa Rauch,” Bialik said. “So she and I talked the most about scheduling and things like that.”

Rauch recently appeared as a guest in the spin-off series. Bialik said they reunited on the set and recalled a brief moment as “really, really special.”

Why Amy & Bernadette’s friendship still resonates

Amy and Bernadette brought a powerful female dynamic to The Big Bang Theory, which was originally centered on male friends. Their friendship still resonates because it reflects the complexities of evolving adult relationships rather than relying on a simpler TV trope.

However, their bond seemed unlikely because of their different personalities. Amy was more formal and cautious, while Bernadette was bubbly, outspoken, and fiercely confident. Bialik believes those differences helped make their characters meaningful. “We were two women in science, both with very different personalities, very different aesthetics,” she explained. Bialik later added that they were both represented as “equally competent, fun, interesting people.”

For Mayim Bialik, returning to that world clearly meant a lot to her because of the people and the characters. Her current series, Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, drops a new episode every Thursday on HBO Max until September 24, 2026.
