‘rich Traditions, Magical Storytelling’: Disney’s Asteria Community Takes Shape

Storyliving by Disney is crystallizing the details of Asteria, a new master-planned residential community that includes 55+ housing linked to The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS).

A centerpiece of the Chatham Park, North Carolina development will be the Second Star Club, which will serve as the “social heart of the community,” according to a news release issued on Wednesday.

The Second Star Club will include shared spaces for “hands-on learning and everyday moments of discovery,” the release added. The community is currently underway in Pittsboro with DMB Development.

“To bring Asteria to life, our team is combining the rich traditions of the Piedmont region with the magical storytelling and service that is uniquely Disney,” said Claire Bilby, senior vice president and general manager of Storyliving by Disney. “We are especially excited to introduce the Second Star Club — a welcoming gathering place destined to become the heartbeat of this vibrant community. Imagine meeting up with your neighbors for a tennis match, grabbing a bite where the restaurant staff knows your favorite item, or picking up a new hobby thanks to inspiration from a Disney expert.”

Designed by Disney Imagineers, the Second Star Club offers indoor and outdoor spaces for all ages, from kids to adults 55+. Named after the celestial compass in “Peter Pan,” the club features a design inspired by wonder and subtle Disney character details.

Home sales will likely begin in fall 2027, with the first residents arriving in fall 2028.

The Second Star Club will serve as the central hub for the community, connecting a diverse range of amenities through a central lawn, according to the news release. Members can access the two-story Marquet Hall restaurant, which features playful “Peter Pan” details alongside sports viewing and games like ping-pong and shuffleboard. For special gatherings, the Piedmont Proper event pavilion will offer a large, artistic venue decorated with Disney themes for club programs and private celebrations.

Creative and physical wellness are core components of the club’s offerings, the release states. At the Studios, members have access to high-tech tools like laser engravers and fabric printers to practice traditional crafts such as quilting and woodworking.

At Longtable Lodge, adults 55 and older have access to a dedicated private space, along with access to the Wellness Center, which features modern fitness equipment and supports healthy lifestyles. Throughout the club, Disney narratives and characters are woven into the design.

A cottage will also be part of the project, with “every corner” of the home “filled with whimsical details” to bring the magic of “Peter Pan” to life. The Lost Key Cottage will be available to rent for overnight stays, hosting family gatherings and celebrations.

The Second Star Club will offer curated Disney Enrichment Programs featuring artist workshops, craft nights, and exhibits from the Disney Archives. A dynamic calendar of entertainment and wellness activities will include movie nights on the lawn, Disney-inspired fitness classes, and social gatherings designed to foster community.

Members can also enjoy themed excursions, such as national park trips with National Geographic photographers or local volunteer opportunities, to further connect with culture and nature.

The Second Star Club is part of the first phase of Asteria’s development, which includes plans for a sales center, a model home village, and the release of 300 home sites, along with parks and trails.

Asteria is the second Storyliving by Disney community, following Cotino, a master-planned development in Rancho Mirage, California.
