American Healthcare REIT (NYSE: AHR) announced a slate of leadership changes on Thursday, including longtime CEO and President Danny Prosky’s retirement.

The company named American Healthcare REIT Chairman of the Board Jeff Hanson incoming CEO, along with promoting COO Gabe Willhite to president. Willhite will retain his COO role following the promotion, the company announced on Thursday.

Also, as part of the leadership changes Scott Estes was appointed as lead independent director.

Hanson started as interim CEO for American Healthcare REIT in February after Prosky took medical leave following a “serious health event.” After consideration, Prosky chose to step down from daily executive duties and the board appointed Hanson CEO.

Hanson is a co-founder of the company and has served as chairman of the board since its founding. In a statement, Hanson said he had “great confidence in the depth of leadership we have established” at American Healthcare REIT.

“Danny, Mathieu Streiff and I built this platform together over the past two decades, and Danny’s extraordinary leadership leaves an indelible mark for which we are profoundly grateful. His continued involvement as a director and trusted advisor is deeply appreciated by our Board of Directors and every employee of American Healthcare REIT,” Hanson said in the news release.

Prosky noted he will remain “fully engaged” as a director and advisor to the existing executive management team.

Willhite’s promotion to president is the culmination of “a decade of consistent performance and enterprise leadership,” Hanson said.

In a statement, Willhite said the Irvine, California-based real estate investment trust was in the “early stages of a generational investment opportunity” for senior living.

In May, AHR announced plans for a $650 million investment pipeline for growing its senior housing operating portfolio (SHOP). American Healthcare REIT has 325 campuses and properties in its portfolio, 149 of which are classified as “integrated senior health campuses” and 87 SHOP properties.

On Thursday, AHR stock fell 1.23% on Thursday to rest at $56.38 per share, a decrease of $0.70 in stock price since the previous day’s trading.
