The Home Depot Adds Digital Tools To Power Construction Pros

The Home Depot is expanding its digital ecosystem for professional customers, adding AI-driven estimating and project-management tools as contractors and homebuilders look to speed up planning, purchasing and jobsite coordination.

Michael Rowe, executive vice president of Pro at The Home Depot, said the retailer has spent the past two years building out wholesale capabilities that move beyond routine purchases and support more complex, planned projects.

The company’s pro digital platform is designed to let users plan projects, schedule and track orders, and review purchase history in one place.

In September, The Home Depot launched its Project Planning tool, a hub for managing complex jobs with multiple crews. Rowe said pros are creating more than 10,000 projects a week using the tool.

In November, the company introduced Blueprint Takeoffs, an AI tool that generates material lists and estimates from single-family blueprints. Rowe said the technology can cut what was previously a lengthy estimating process down to days.

The company added another AI feature in January with Material List Builder, which automatically produces material lists and quotes for contractors.

A workspace dashboard, launched in recent months, gives users access to rewards, savings, orders, projects, material lists and quotes without needing to call customer service. Rowe said the dashboard is seeing strong engagement.

Rowe said the focus is removing friction from the project-planning and purchasing process, with speed and ease as the primary goals for pro customers.

“Speed and ease are probably the two most important things to them. How do we take friction away from them?” Rowe said.

Rowe said the AI tools still have gaps. Blueprint Takeoffs performs better for framing and interior materials – including drywall, insulation, cabinetry and flooring – than it does for electrical and plumbing. The Home Depot is working to improve those categories and could release updates in the coming months.

“That’s where I’m looking forward to more advances that we’re making through 2026 … so that we can be even more of that greater one-stop shop, versus having to go to some other software when it comes to electrical and plumbing,” Rowe said.
