United Methodist Communities has appointed Bob Peterson as its interim president and CEO.

The senior living operator announced President and CEO Mark Lenhard’s exit on Wednesday. Lenhard is leaving United Methodist to lead aging services organization Parker Health Group. His remaining time with the organization will be spent as counsel to Peterson, according to a press release.

Peterson has served with United Methodist Communities since 2019, when he acted as chief financial officer. He is credited with playing “a central role in strengthening UMC’s financial position, guiding critical organizational decisions and supporting investments in residents, teammates, technology and future growth,” according to the release.

UMC is in the process of rolling out a transition plan to ensure continuity across the organization.

“I am honored by the Board’s confidence and grateful for the opportunity to serve in this role,” Peterson said in the release. “Mark has positioned UMC for an exciting future, and I look forward to building on that momentum alongside our teammates, residents, families, partners, and board members. Together, we will create endless opportunities for older adults to thrive.”

Lenhard has led the organization since 2022, during which time United Methodist Communities launched BEAM Consulting, which “helps senior living organizations modernize operations through technology and artificial intelligence,” and established Connexion Communities, a subsidiary that expanded its mission beyond New Jersey, the release states.

“Serving UMC has been one of the greatest privileges of my career. I have had the opportunity to work alongside extraordinary teammates, board members, residents, families, and partners who are committed to our mission,” Lenhard said in the release. “I am confident in UMC’s future. Under Bob’s leadership, UMC will continue to grow, innovate, and create new possibilities for older adults and their families.”

United Methodist Communities consists of four communities focused in New Jersey. The faith-based organization was founded in 1907 to “provide a safe, caring home for aging Methodist missionaries, pastors, deaconesses and laypeople,” according to the organization’s website.
