13 Year Old Daughter Sexually Harassed At School
Without getting too in the weeds, my daughter was subjected to a boy showing her his privates at school. She was advised to tell a teacher, and then had to repeat her story 4 more times to other adults. The phone call from the school did not match her version of the story, but seemed to be more the boys version (he was adjusting himself, according to him, he was handling it and staring at her, according to her). they both were able to stay at school. Days later the school approaches my daughter to hear the story again and to say she won't be able to see the boy in the hallways or classes ever again and we've heard through her friends he has been suspended.
We've since received a Title IX policy reminder that was more formal than caring. My daughter is experiencing follow up issues from the other kids after rumors have spread and she still talks about crying when she sees him and has a very disgusting description of the situation that makes me cringe. She literally said it took her childhood away from her.
Location: Michigan. Unsure how to proceed to ensure my daughter knows how to and knows TO stand up to this kind of harassment. Is suspension enough for her at her age or would further legal trauma be worse?
