15 Month Old Dog Killed By Rover Pet Sitters. What Is Everything I Should Do To Get Justice.

My 15 month old dog was killed by Rover pet sitters dog

I was on a short trip for two days and left my dog with a stay at home couple that I found on Rover. They had multiple five star reviews and had taken care of many dogs in the past including puppies and said they provided a safe space for all dogs.

When I got back from my trip (yesterday morning) they called me and gave a very brief and foggy story. They said that my dog died because he was humping their dog while eating food and their dog grabbed him by the neck and killed him and then they pulled him away but he was dead. They also admitted there was signs of aggression from their dog towards my dog before!? They didn’t notify me of that and obviously didn’t split them up or take precautions.

This is where it gets bad and weird⬇️

I was not notified that my dog had died until hours after it had happened and thats when they called me and explained what happened like said above. I told them to wrap him in a blanket asap and I would come get him. They said they aren’t home now and would get it done in an hour!? I told them to do it now and then drove straight to their house and got my dog.

When I looked at my dead baby he was covered in dirt and grass which contradicts their story about them eating food (indoors).

I took him to the vet to get a report from them and they showed that my dog had bite marks near his abdomen area, broken ribs and bruises all over him which to me sounds like my dog was being thrown around by their dog OUTSIDE for an extended period of time. To say it again THEY ADMITTED SIGNS OF AGGRESSION HAPPENED BEFOREHAND!? I still don’t understand why they were outside together.

Ive asked for a full story by these sitters and they have been completely silent and haven’t said anything since they called me, not even giving me any information on what happened or even an apology which is very weird and suspicious to me.

I already have a case on file for the rover safety team and they say they are investigating into the sitter. I also am in contact with animal control and they are now issuing citations to these people because Animal Control confirmed the dog was unlicensed and not up to date on rabies vaccination and issued citations. I’ll probably be going into legal action with a small claims court soon if rover and animal control don’t help enough. Im not sure if any lawyer would be willing to even take a case like this. I also filed a police report, but we all know how those can be.

Ive been depressed ever since it happened and cant stop crying my head hurts so bad. He was my first dog I ever got after I moved into my own apartment alone. He brought so much light and was the happiest dog you would ever meet he got along with everyone and everything and would never hurt a soul. He was the silliest, energetic and kindest dog ever and he was perfectly healthy and had no issues at all. He was only 15 months old and I keep thinking of how much life he was going to have with me that got cut way too short. I see his happy goofy smiling face everywhere i look in my apartment and it genuinely hurts so bad it’s unreal.
