A Car Dealership Totaled My Car During A Service, Then The Married Service Director Asked Me If I Had An Onlyfans And To Go On A Date With Him…

In 2023, I hit a deer and my car was sent to the dealership for a diagnostic. A tech failed to ensure to hood of the car was latched and when he went to test drive it, the hood flew up into the windshield and shattered it and slammed back down onto the engine.

I was completely unaware of this until many weeks later. My insurance company called me and asked if I’d heard anything from CDJR because no one had updated the notes on the case. My car was at the dealership being “diagnosed” from May until September. They did not speak to me or my insurer the entire time.

I called CJDR and asked them what was going on, they revealed they haven’t been able to run a diagnostic on my car yet because there was some “minor damage” done to the hood but it was no big deal and they were going to replace the hood and continue on.

Progressive informed me that my rental car would be expiring and they couldn’t get ahold of anyone at CJDR, but if something on their team damaged my car, furthering my repair time, CJDR was then responsible for the rental and that I should try to go and see the damage to the car.

I get to the dealership and look at my car. I notice the windshield had been completely replaced with a new one. I had no prior knowledge of this nor did I authorize it. When I pointed it out, they lied and said the windshield had not been replaced. I noted that my original windshield had a jeep Easter egg detail on the bottom of a wrangler climbing a mountain and this windshield did not. Also, the interior of my car was covered in shattered glass. When I brought this up to the service tech, he said “wow, you pay a lot of attention to detail, don’t you?”

The service manager, after quite some time, came out to speak to me and was one of the rudest most curt people in management I have ever encountered.

When I asked him if the replacement windshield was OEM, he claimed he didn’t know. I told him it needed to be and he said “look, we’re helping you out here by repairing it on our own dime. You’re not paying for the damage here.” …. When I didn’t even do the damage.

He then told me the original windshield wasn’t shattered, it was just bent inward. I asked him why there was shattered glass all over the interior of car and he briefly insinuated that the car came like that. When I told him I had just had it cleaned before relinquishing it to progressive’s tow service, he said he personally didn’t see the interior so he has no knowledge of any glass covering the floors and the cuts in the leather-like material of the dash from the glass impacting it.

I told him progressive is expiring my 30-day rental and the new hood isn’t even going to be here until the following month and he told me “as a big curtesy, for the inconvenience, I could put you in another rental on Tuesday.”

I asked him if he had access to a dollar amount of damages done to my car by the tech and he refused to tell me. When I asked if he could get me someone who did have that info, he said he did have access but he didn’t know off the top of his head. I asked him if he could go retrieve that information for me and he said “I am not willing to do that for you right now.”

I then asked if he could print off an itemized list of parts they needed to replace due to the tech’s error and how much they were going to cost, and to also print off the notes on what exactly happened that day since no one would give me a straight story. He said “I could. But not today.” When asked why he couldn’t print them off he said ”I don’t have time to do that for you. I’m too busy and have things to do.” He then gave me a card and retreated to his office without another word.

I was beside myself and didn’t know what to do. They weren’t telling me the truth, replacing my original parts with aftermarket parts to save a penny and purposefully withholding information about the damage done to my car because it is likely surpassing what I owed on my vehicle loan and they don’t want to own up to it.

I posted this story to the BBB and was promptly called by the service director in charge of several CJDR dealerships in the region. He said he was incredibly sorry for what happened and that the service manager had just lost his aunt so his rude demeanor was due to his grief.

The service manager told me he’d put me in a rental until a solution that everyone was happy with could be reached.

The day I went and met with the service manager, he said “he’d really like to help me out.” He told me that my car was likely a total loss and that the incident would go on the carfax as a salvage title. The car’s repairs would surpass what I still owed on the car (my remaining balance was about $2,700). He said I’d be better off cutting a deal with them on a new vehicle and that they would make it worth my while. I asked what they’d do with the old car and he said “it’s going to the junkyard, that thing is a total loss.”

The service manager told me he’d give me what I paid for my car originally (~$12,500 in 2018) toward a new vehicle. I asked about my remaining loan and he said they would also cover that cost.

The next day I go in to see about purchasing a new car and met with a salesman who had no idea what he was doing or what was going on. He asked me if I had a down payment. I told him I spoke with the service director and explained the situation…again. He pulled the sales manager who also didn’t know what I was talking about. I said “excuse me just a second while I call [service director] so he can explain everything.” To which they quickly told me “no, no, no. We’ve got this.”

They sold me a 2023 Jeep at 15.99% interest. This is where I know I fucked myself and I take responsibility for that. I was excited about the thought of a shiny new car and I let that cloud my judgement. Later when I saw the bottom line, I realized they only gave me $10,000 for my car and deducted my remaining balance from my old loan from the $10k. So really I only got about $7,300 put toward the new vehicle.

One guy was showing me pictures of his daughter who was my age while I was signing the paperwork. He was telling me things like “I’m gonna tell you this because I’d want my daughter to be informed… etc etc “ I realize now he was doing this to distract me so I’d sign without doing too much digging. This is important later.

I go home with the new car and texts me from his personal cell phone to ask me how I like the car. I didn’t feel 100% happy with the situation because my gut told me something wasn’t right. But I didn’t want to create any more problems after these nice people worked so hard to accommodate me, or so I thought. Service Director asks me to come by the dealership the next week so he can check out the car and make sure everything is to my satisfaction.

I go to the dealership to meet service manager and he comes out to look at the car. Opens the doors, kicks the tires, etc. Then he chats for a while. “I saw on your paperwork you said your income was from social media.”

(It was, I had a successful TikTok with approx 300k followers - the TikTok has since been banned for stupid reasons) but at the time I was bringing in a decent chunk of change.

“Yes, I do social media stuff.” I said. “So like, are you on onlyfans?” He asked. I felt extremely uncomfortable as this conversation had gotten weird and I stammered and kind of laughed it off and he said “yeah, you seem like you’d be good at that.”

I kept the conversation polite and left. A few moments later he texts my phone again asking me to go on a date with him later that night. Asks me to “bring a cute friend or something” if I feel weird about it. Meanwhile unbeknownst to him, every time he called me, his wife’s name popped up as the caller ID.

I did not respond to his text and left it alone. Over the course of the next few days he’s call me and leave long 2-3 minute voicemails but they’d be completely silent. Then a few months later he texted me Merry Christmas and that he was in town and asked if I could meet him so he could see how the car was doing. I also ignored that message.

During all that time, the guys from the dealership had somehow found my social media accounts, despite me never telling them what they were and none of the accounts used my real name so you’d really have to work to find me. The guy who said I reminded him of his daughter followed me on instagram and began leaving suggestive and inappropriate comments on my photos.

It finally died down and they stopped contacting me. Now, two years later, I happened to look up the VIN to my original car to see if I could find the junkyard it went to or where it ended up out of curiosity. I was shocked to find it had been SOLD in SC (coincidentally near where the service director lives) and the carfax was absolutely spotless. They didn’t report ANY of the damages to carfax. And they didn’t junk the car like he said they would. He sold it.

Maybe there’s nothing I can do and I’ve made my bed. I accept that if that’s the case. But this mf conned me into going from paying $275/month at 2% to $700/month at 15.99%, promising me a deal and that my original car wasn’t worth saving. That car would’ve been long paid off by now and I wouldn’t be drowning in this new payment I couldn’t afford.

If you made it this far, thank you for reading my long ass story. At this point it feels absolutely hopeless. But I can’t make these car payments anymore (I had a surgery with complications and almost died so I wasn’t able to keep up with my accounts, then my TikTok got banned over a misunderstanding so I lost my man source of income in an instant) and the bank is threatening to take the car. I just feel like these people royally fucked me and my dumb ass bent over and let them do it.

Is there anything I can do?
