A Dump Truck Illegally Operating Totaled My Vehicle.

Card image cap

I was driving down I40E in North Carolina, when a dump truck in a construction zone pulled out in front of me, ran me off the road, and totaled my Alfa Romeo. The truck was not registered, DOT sticker was expired, the driver had no license, and the company operating the truck was not supposed to be operating at the time. To keep it short, I’m gonna owe over $5,000 to pay off my vehicle (I understand that’s my fault for not having gap coverage, lesson learned). The whole accident was recorded on my dash cam, and the driver of the truck was ruled 100% at fault and charged with the accident as stated on the accident report by NCSHP. I did not get any tickets or anything as I was going the speed limit, made no reckless maneuvers, etc. I was not injured, and I did not actually end up making contact with the truck, as I stated before he just ran me off the road.

I was curious if I maybe had any sort of case to have this company pay off my vehicle due to the circumstances of this accident. I don’t want anything extra, I just don’t want to owe anything for an accident that wasn’t my fault and honestly should have never even been able to happen.

I’ve contacted over 10 lawyers and none of them will take my case because I was not injured, and a couple have admitted “it’s because we won’t make enough money off of it,” which is fair, I get it.

It’s been about a month, and I still don’t have a car. I’m also in the middle of trying to buy a house, so this honestly came at a terrible time. I just want to be able to buy a new car without having to fork out $5k to pay off a car I don’t even have anymore.

Location: North Carolina (Forsyth County)
