Accountant Asked To Commit Fraud By My Cfo - I Refused, Reported To Hr & Ia...now What (nys)

LOCATION: New York

I work for a massive publicly traded company doing accounting work. I am NOT a CPA. Back in April, I brought up a 7-figure discrepancy in our books to my CFOs, as a means of being proactive, as the old CFO was retiring. The old CFO was aware of the discrepancy, but never signed off on correcting it. For context, I worked here for about 2.5 years prior with no issues and positive performance reviews.

Old CFO asked me to amortize the loss through a reserve account over a few years. I looked into it and discovered this might violate GAAP or be outright illegal.

The new CFO then asked me if I could write off less depending on how sales look that month.

When I confronted both CFOs to express my concerns that it might be against GAAP and asked to run it by our internal auditors, as well as said I'm not comfortable posting the entries, they cursed at me, said I didn't know what I was talking about, threatened to fire me, and tried to induce my resignation for my 'insubordination.' I politely declined to resign and left the meeting in tears while my old CFO called HR and then tried to say what a GOOD employee I was, and that there were no issues. He claimed he was 'not a liar' etc etc etc, clearly talking out of his ass.

Obviously, I reported this in writing to HR immediately and began gathering evidence.

Well, weeks went by with no update from HR, so I took it upon myself to follow our employee code of conduct and report to internal audit. When I did so, HR expressed their 'disappointment.'

It's now been about 3 months, and I know I only have 3 more months to file a claim with the EEOC.

I feel like I'm being isolated, work is being taken away from me, and they're looking for any legal reason to fire me. My autoimmune issues have flared up, and despite having a documented disability, I'm needing to work from home more, which isn't helping my case. I'm concerned they're trying to run out the clock on the 6 months.

I know I can report this to the SEC and/or contact an employment / whistleblower attorney -- I've consulted a few.

How should I be handling this? Besides looking for another job, I know they're going to fire me, and I want to protect myself.
