Accused Of Voyeurism

In Dec 2025, I was a part time employee at a sporting goods store. I was called into an office where 3 police officers were waiting. They told me a customer saw me taking photos of them under the bathroom stall while he was in there.

They made me put my phone on the desk and unlock it(I know, stupid in hindsight). They then demanded I opened my photo gallery and let the officer look through it. I was very shaken up by this because I know I would never take photos of someone without consent, especially while in a bathroom, so I though that the cops would take a look and let me be on my way. Unfortunately that was not the case. I was told that they would be taking my phone and they would be doing a complete data download of everything on it, and I wouldn't be getting it back until they deemed there was nothing inappropriate on it. I was then fired from my parttime job via email the next day. I had to buy one of those prepaid phones from walmart because I had to leave on a work trip for my full time job the next morning.

This was December 7th, and when I got back home a week or so after, I called asking for an update and they said they had not even began the download because they did not have a warrant, and also getting the warrant would take a while because it was not a high priority case. I filed a complaint at the advice of lawyer, and that was the last I heard from the Police Department.

It is now January 26th, and I am considering cutting my losses on my phone(its a samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra). But before I do I want some advice on an idea I had. At no point during my interrogation was I told who the accuser was. They would only tell me that it was a customer in the store. Am I not entitled to the name of my accuser? Or is it some kind of weird privacy law? What I want to do before I completely cut my losses is to actually contact the guy and explain what happened, and basically ask him to drop the accusation, in hopes I can get it returned to me. Would this potentially help? Or would this make the situation worse? Is it something even worth attempting? Any advice at all is greatly appreciated.
