Attorney Rescheduled, So I Canceled. Now They Want To Charge Me. Do I Owe This Attorney?

I called a law office that I had positively done business with in the past to ask if they offered notary services.

A paralegal picked up my call to confirm that they do offer notary services for $15. The paralegal asked me to email my forms to the paralegal and attorney, so that they could look into it before the in-person meeting they scheduled for me on Wednesday. On Wednesday, the paralegal emails me that the attorney and notary are unavailable and they are rescheduling me for Thursday. I call the office shortly after to let them know to cancel the appointment since I figured I’d just go anywhere else, that way I can get it over with and not call off work tomorrow. The attorney personally called me back very upset that I was taking my business elsewhere, trying to convince me that any other place I go to would not be able to match their service and ended the call saying to wait for another call from them. I was firm on cancelling the appointment. In less than an hour, the attorney calls me back saying that everyone is now available to help me, but I was firm that I was already going somewhere else. The attorney replied with “Bye” and hung up. An hour later an email from the attorney arrives saying they are sending me an invoice of $350 for their services.

Normally, the attorney listens to my issue in-person. From there, if I wish to accept the attorney’s services, they will have me sign something that states the service I am receiving and how much it will cost (and if I will pay upfront or after). Otherwise that is the end of it and I am not charged.

I didn’t sign anything and never agreed to this service of that cost ($350). [I guess the attorney assumed I wanted a “document review”? I never asked for that.] I also I don’t feel like I owe them considering they told me they weren’t available the day of the appointment. If I don’t have to and shouldn’t pay, ow do I proceed?
