Being Sued For Credit Card Debt, Not Sure What To Do

Location: Michigan

Hello, as the title says I’ve recently received a big summons packet in the mail saying I’m being sued for credit card debt. It’s about $1,700. A few years ago when I was making decent money, I got a credit card thinking I could use it to help build my credit. Long story short, I no longer am making an income and life circumstances made me unable to make repayments. There’s no court date on the packet, and apparently the debt was sold to a debt recovery agency in another state. I’ve tried looking up what my options are, and I know my first step is to submit an answer to the court. I realize I should do this if I don’t want the case to go to default judgement, but I have $100 to my name, no savings, income, property, car, anything. I’m still living with my parents, and I’m in community college. I feel like even if I did submit the answer, it wouldn’t matter because they’re not going to rule in my favor. I considered attempting to email the agency to explain my situation and try to resolve it outside of court, but I know they don’t care about me and I think it likely would only make it worse. They can’t do wage garnishment since I don’t have a job, and I wouldn’t be able to do monthly payments since, again, no money. Should I try to submit an answer with the court? What would they be able to do considering my situation? I would really appreciate any advice anyone may have, thank you
