Benefits Terminated Due To Non-payment But I Paid My Bill On Time.

I don’t know if this is something I can handle legally. I have been on an LOA under FMLA since March 5th. This isn’t my first rodeo, I have been on an LOA same time last year. I have severe dysmotility, an ostomy bag, failure to thrive, MALS, SMAS, gastroparesis, etc.

I have a Hickman line in my chest, I’m on TPN and just got off a feeding tube on top of that. I have a weekly nurse to come and draw labs and change my dressings

For context, I was 90lbs at 5’10 in January. I was on my death bed for months, dealt with refeeding syndrome in the hospital, and was struggling to stay alive.

Well of course I’m aware I have to pay my benefits and insurance out of pocket. We were sent a letter for back payment of $729.45. We paid our bill via check because it was not letting us pay it online.

We send the payment. Benefits center says they received the check. They send me a letter of confirmation of payment, but the amount confirmed is around $600, not the $729 check I sent. I don’t know if I’m stupid but last time I overpaid I just got sent a refund check. I assumed I just overpaid and was waiting for the return check. This payment came out of my friends bank account because he was helping me.

I’m checking my balance monthly in my secure inbox on my company’s website. It’s telling me I have $0 balance and no payment is due. I’m thinking I’m in the clear. My insurance is good. Up until last Thursday when my infusion company calls me to tell me my insurance is inactive. The same day, I receive a text from CVS that I don’t have insurance for all my prescriptions. Then my therapist tells me the same.

I immediately start panicking and calling benefits center. Since Thursday I have been getting a different story from each representative. One says they see the check for $729 and they sent it over to another dept to get processed. The next says they never got a payment at all. Then they say they pulled it out of my bank account automatically, then refunded me for insufficient funds. which is impossible because there is no statement in my Wells Fargo account for that transaction. I only have one account. I ask them what bank account and they won’t tell me, or “can’t” tell me. I know my friend had the funds. I KNOW he did.

I filed an appeal the same day I found out. They’re telling me it’ll be 60 days just to find out if they will or won’t reinstate it.

I do not have 60 days. I get MY NUTRITION from my home infusions. I haven’t had my shipment for this week. I can’t reorder my ostomy supplies. I’m scared.

I don’t know what to do. My nurse is coming today and last week it was $6k. I would never NOT pay my insurance. It’s so crucial that I have my benefits.

What can I do?! Nobody is understanding the severity of this. I’m losing my mind. I don’t want to end up back in the hospital. I can’t do it. I did everything right and I’ve done it before.

Please be kind to me, I feel like an idiot and I feel like I should have paid more attention, but I was genuinely only getting confirmation and $0 balance letters. I was healing and my brain wasn’t working a lot of the time. I relied on others to help me work through a lot of this. They thought I was in the clear too. It doesn’t make sense.

I’m trying to apply for emergency insurance but they can’t verify my identity for some reason. So I was on the phone with them for an hour too. I’ve just been nonstop crying over this mess.
