Bitten By Leashed (not Service) Dog Inside A Home Depot
Looking for any help on this. Yesterday afternoon I stopped by Home Depot towards end of my shift to pick up some hardware. As I’m walking down one end of the aisle I see a dog and owner about midway and think nothing of it. As I pass by them the dog attacks my leg and in the struggle moves up to my arm at the elbow. After checking in on me and apologizing/admitting fault the owner offers me 400$ (what he had in his wallet). I respond by saying no we need to do this the right way. I ask if the dog is up to date on shots (worried about rabies) and owner states dog was up to date. Home Depot files an incident report while both is us are present. I ask for access to the cameras and the Home Depot employee denied having access to them. After contacting police we were referred to humane society to file a report with them instead of the police. Bite broke skin and elbow now feels painful around the area the muscle/tendons connect to the bone. Took the owners info and he took mine. Finished the day off by going to urgent care and getting a shot and antibiotics. Got home in the evening. Don’t know where to even start with legal since I’ve never been in a situation that needed one. This is all in Southern California. Both the dog owner and myself live in the same city. Home Depot was the city adjacent to us. Thank you
Location: Southern California
TLDR; dog bit my leg and arm inside a Home Depot. Had to visit urgent care for meds and shot. Owner admits guilt and offers cash.
