Brother Is Involved In The Repackage Scam. Mother Might Be An Accomplice. What To Do?

(Brother stays over our uncle place in SC from time to time might have use his address for this too)

TL;DR: My brother got sucked into a remote work reshipping scam. Today, two PS5s arrived, and my mom signed for them without knowing it was part of the scam. I’m worried she will be viewed as an accomplice. What is the legal risk, and should we talk to a lawyer or the police first?

Hi everyone,

I previously posted on [r/scams](r/scams) about a remote work-from-home "job" my brother as a "Logistics Support Specialist" where he receives packages, inspects them, and reships them using prepaid labels.

I now know this is a reshipping/parcel mule scam where criminals use stolen credit cards to buy goods and use people's addresses to buffer the delivery.

I warned my brother, but he claims he wants to keep doing it until the end of the month to see if his "paycheck" clears. He already gave them his ID and bank details (though he recently asked them to switch to a paper check).

The situation escalated today. Two PS5s were delivered to our house. My brother wasn't downstairs, so my mother signed for the boxes, completely unaware of the scam.

Some comments on my previous post mention how the police might get involved. My family has been through a lot, and I am terrified of this blowing up or my mom getting into legal trouble for just signing for a delivery at her own door.

Also, our home address has been used at least twice now. My brother also occasionally stays with our uncle, and I am worried he may have used our uncle's address as well.

1. What is the actual legal risk for my mother here? She had absolutely no intent or knowledge of the fraud when she signed.
2. Should we speak to a lawyer before doing anything else?
